I'm not sure if this topic has been on here recently but i think it needs to be addressed again. On Monday night, my friends 97 Ram CTD was stolen. It was taken from the some parking lot that use to park in. My question to you guys is, "What kinds of things can i do to keep someone from stealing my truck. " I understand that if someone wants something bad enough they are going to get it, but i would like to at least try and dicourage them from taking it. Please don't answer this question on the forums because i realize other people read this forum. Sending me a private message would be great. You never really worry about things like this until they happen to someone you know and in such close proximity. In case you were wondering the truck was stolen in Columbus, OH. Thanks for any responses you guys can give me.

My honest opinion is that NO anti theft device will stop a determined thief!!!

I have seen many alarm systems yanked out of vehicles without them even letting out a peep. So are they worth the money??? I sure don't think so.

Personally alarm systems only tell people that you have something expensive that you don't want stolen... they work more as an annoying deterant.

I would personally put on a fuel shut off valve where only you know where it is.

Just remember... anything electronic can be bypassed!!! JMHO from experience.

Steve,

I do agree with that. I see all kinds of things on campus. Some of them i wish i hadn't.

Kevin,

Very true. Just how would you reccomend doing something like that? Send me a PM if you can. Thanks.

Some of the vehicles around here get stolen by having a tilt-bed truck pull up and winching it onboard. I don't know what you can do to deter that, short of locking it to a large object with a ship's anchor chain. Lo-Jack works if it has a separate battery source.

K-arts and Skunk are correct, a determined and able thief can steal about anything; but

In most cases, thieves are oportunists and if you can put a significant deterent in thier way, they will go elsewhere.

In may case, I put a hidden push button in the wire to the starter selinoid. Unless you hold the button down it won't crank. Sure a competent thief could sort it out, or jump around it, but the odds are good that he won't want to hang around when there are other trucks down the road with out the problem to solve. The push button has another advantage; I can't forget and leave it in the on position (but I did wire in a toggle bypass under the hood for a situation should I ever need to leave it for repair or service. So far it has been used only when I had to have a tire repair. )
