I have talked about this once before, but now I need to do this.

I am going to change the serpentine belt, hoses, thermostat and antifreeze. I called CumminsNW and they said the Fleetgaurd is $24/gallon. They are using a Valvoline that is like $7/gallon and they add an additive to it. The same guy also told me that I could use Prestone, Zerex, whatever. He said it didn't matter.

Can someone tell me what is best and why it is? I would rather not pay $24/gallon, but I also don't want something that isn't right.

And, how much do I need. I believe it's 6 or 7 gallons.

TIA, Joe

I use Prestone 5 year. The B series isn't sleeved and doesn't have the electrolysis issues some of the other engines have so it isn't as important. Factory spec is 6 gallons. If you drain with the radiator drain or lower rad hose you'll barely put more than 4 back in it.

Since you're an Amsoil Dealer, why don't you use the Propylene Glycol Antifreeze and Engine Coolant amsoil has available?

I've used it in the last 2 CTD trucks I have owned, and loved it. It works well, and last a long time.

What is the price per gallon on that?

That's an option also. I am just trying to see what everyone else is using and what's required. Spending $25/gallon if the $7/gallon stuff works then I will go with the $7 stuff
