antifreeze leaking out of the motor

i have an 03 i got it back from dc yesterday after a couple of seal changes on the motor and noticed that on the exhaust side of the motor right about the exhaust manifold where they have those threaded plugs mine is leaking antifreeze from two of the bigs ones any imput will be helpful

Sometimes they are loose. Just try tightening them down a little and see if it helps.

Mine was always a bit wet right there everytime I degreased the motor, and I lost a few quarts over the course of 150,000 miles. I never did try and tighten those pipe plugs



I just used 2 bottles of flush, 15 or so gallons of distilled water and 3 gallons of anti-freeze ... ... ... . I prolly ought to do that :-laf

I have a light crust around those plugs that indicates they seep coolant slightly. I've never tightened them, and don't plan to do so (unless they really start leaking).



I agree with the others - just tighten them a little. Or, maybe even better, remove them (after the engine cools), apply a thread sealant, and reinstall.



If you do simply tighten them, don't crank them down! Just give them 1/8 turn and see if that cures it.

I you do take them out and clean them and reinstall them with some good pipe dope make sure the engine is cool and only do one at a time are you will loose alot of coolant trust me i know lol but looks great now no leaking at all

Really? I would've expected them to be high enough on the block that they wouldn't gush if you pulled them.

no they will gush but if you do one at a time it keeps them air locked and only leak alil and do not take the cap off you your radiator it will also gush make sure you pipe dope is rated for the proper temp also

if the system is cool, pop the rad cap off, and use a shop vac to create a low pressure in the system [need to keep it low enough so it doesn't draw coolant into the vac] and you can pull plugs and not loose a drop. .



i haven't tried it with a cooling system, but i have used the same trick to hold back several thousand gallons of diesel fuel to remove a plug in a tank
