BTW - My motorcycle manual wants only anti-freeze without silicates in the coolant... it was found that the small specks of cleaner (sand) would get into the ceramic seal of the pump and cause it damage and pre-mature pump failure...

Remember that all early long life anti-freeze had the silicates in the anti-freeze to extend the life of the coolant as the silicates would wash around the cast iron and clean it... .

I had a good friend who worked only on Goldwings and would recommend a coolant change every year... . this was before they said not to use the long life coolant... . he had more failures(pump) that were covered under warranty... . (no mileage and 3 years)

So using the wrong anti-freeze has plagued all kinds of vehicles...

I have a 2003 CTD and I am getting ready to flush the antifreeze and replace it. I have had problems with the OAT (orange) dex-cool antifreeze in my Chevy Impala, I am a little concerned about putting a similar antifreeze (HOAT) in my truck. I know the HOAT is not the same as OAT, but I am still a little concerned about it. I have used the green stuff for years in other vehicles with no problem.

Reading the artical in TDR # 62, page 42-44, it says the Chrysler spec MS-9769, HOAT is backward campatible for all years of our CTD's.

So What coolant should I use in a 2003 HO ?

Unless there is a difference between year 2003 and 2003. 5 I would use the HOAT, orange in color.

I bought my truck new and the fluid was orange from the start. The TDR, shop manual and the truck manual that comes with the truck says to use the HOAT fluid. Chrysler spec MS-9769.

MS-9769 ,Dodge dealers do not know what that is

I bought mine at the Dodge dealer, Victorville Motors.

The container says Mopar right on it, 5 year / 100,000 mile, embittered.

I guess the parts guy can not cross check the MS number to there part number. The Mopar part number is: 68048953AA

Other numbers, meets: ASTM D-3306 ~ ASTM D-4340
