Has anyone used a anti freeze supplement instead of changing antifreeze. I work for the state highway and they don't change their antifreeze in any of their diesel rigs whether it be trucks or heavy equipment. Instead they test the coolant with a test strip, then if needed they add a product by Fleetguard, called Fleetcool DCA antifreeze supplement which replaces the anti-corrosiveness that the coolant looses over time. I have done this with my truck and so far I have had good luck with it. What is the Roundtables opinion?

Just to let you know, I've read that for the construction of our ISB, being different than the bigger rig diesels (parent block vs bore sleeves and such), it's recommended to change the antifreeze and not do what's done on the big rigs.
There are more issues with the big rigs and the ph and other additives to stop reactions that cause pitting in the cylinder sleeves. Our ISB doesn't have those problems and the additives are not needed, but the common antifreeze maintance is needed.
Cummins points you to your Dodge Owners Manual cause there's other things than just the engine to be worried about, like keeping the inside of the radiator clean.

No problem but antifreeze mfgrs reccomend coolant change out every 5 years with extended drain. extended drain = quarterly testing and sca recharge as necessary.

Simon,I use Nal-Cool 2000 once a year on both my Cummins and all diesel tractors with a five year coolant change. Usually a water pump or hose goes out first and requires the change anyways. My gas Toyota beater has had the same anti-freeze for 15 years, 300k, just add Nal-Cool once a year. Wix also makes a similar product, Jerry's carries it.

PS, Lake Chelan is almost full!!!
