Does anyone know where to get collectors insurance for an antique FOUR WHEEL DRIVE vehicle? I see plenty of them at shows, in pristine condition, so how are people insuring them? All the insuance companies I have contacted say no to four wheel drive!

I had my 64' chevy c-10 insured by an independent broker a long time ago and don't remember which company it was through. I do remember the policy was based on a certain dollar amount I specified and not what the ins. company might say. If all else fails, pick up an old car magazine, I have seen ads for companies that specialize in old vehicles.

This may not help you necessarily since mine is a 2-wheel drive, but I have my old Chevy truck with American Collectors Insurance. It's an agreed value policy and requires the truck to be stored in a locked garage etc.

FD- I'm an insurance agent, and have used Hagerty here in Colorado for 4 wheel drive vehicles. They are picky about how/when/why/by whom they are used, but it can be done. Rates are great. I've also used Heacock for "key-off" race car coverage. If you call an Independent Agent, not one of those "one company" guys, you should be able to get some good coverage. Bruce

I have 59 Power Wagon I insured through JC Taylor. Did it all through the mail. They're good with a stated value up to 30K with no professional appraisal. Full coverage ran me $190 for the year. I have no complaints with that.

a friend of mine has an old ferd from hte late 60's 4wd and he is insured through state farm... but he also has a new chevy ( pos), a house, and life insurance... the ferd has historical plates
