I got an early 80s John Deere 4640, the AC compressor on it locked up because it got too hot, so I got a new compressor and put it on, charged the system and it blows cold, but the compressor is still gettin really hot. What else do I need to check or add to the system to prevent the compressor from getting so hot, I am afraid that it is gonna lock up again.

If the pump blew up you should have had the system evacuated changed any internal filters if applicable and probably the accumaltor as well otherwise any metal shavings will destroy the new pump

Ditto the above. Do you have a gauge set hooked up? What are the readings? Did you replace any oil, and if you did, use the correct oil?

Depending on the type of system you have, you need to replace the expansion valve or orifice. Prior to installing the new ones, the system needs to back flushed then forward flushed until all oil and debris is gone. This may take several cycles. Then install new expansion valve or orifice, new dryer/accumulator, pressure leak check, evacuate, vacuum leak check, inject the required amount of oil and charge.

Ditto on all the above advice but remember it is a compressor and as things compress it makes heat and a lot of it. It is normal for it to be hot.
