I am going to put my newly rebuilt auto transmission back in this week end. I have done several manual trannys, but this is my first auto. I was told to flush the lines real good, anthing else. Also what ATF do you guys recommend?
i go with atf 4 thats what dtt recomends i would find out what the manufacturer of the rebuild kit you used recomends also i changed the oil twice and had it serviced at 3000 miles and the bands checked. i had a lot of clutch material in my torque converter though as i reused my bd i changed the oil again a 6000k and sent cat an oil sample at 10,000 it came back a ok
going to send another sample to cat when i change my engine oil
I used a pump up spray bottle to flush my air to air cooler (front cooler at radiator). The 89' the FSM recommends flushing with mineral spirits and chasing with trans. fluid, I disposed the chasing fluid then filled with new after the install. The fluid recommended in the year model FSM is what I would use. Over the years I have read lot of hype and mysteria about transmission fluid compatability, it's really not that big of a deal. The regular old trans. fluids are pretty much made of the same thing (mineral oils) with different friction modifying properties that affect shifting etc. One or the other is not the kiss of death.
