Any aftermarket builders close to selling an Allison 1000 for the dodge?

Cummins or Not?

The Allison 1000 has been out quite a while now. I saw the other thread saying it mated up without any modification to truck including doesn't need a lift. They are easy to make 6 speed and they can be very sturdy. The only problem I recall hearing a year or two ago was the electronics it uses to talk to the engine or ecm (whichever it talks to).

Someone has to be close to having one available for us. My knee gets worse every year and though I love my NV5600 it's going to be forced to go bye bye. I know the after market builders make a great 47/48RE but I think I would be much happier with an allison. I've seen them on ebay for $1,500 bucks. I wouldn't think some aftermarket magic would be anywhere close to the price tag on a built 47/48RE as allot of the stuff shouldn't have to be swapped out. Ofcourse I'm probably wrong just because of the novelty of it.

No one? Not even a tid bit of info? I see DTT's site says they are building up one for the chebby's, if anyone could get it to work well with the cummins I'm sure they could. Anyone?... ... Bueller?

Check in the conversion forum I thought I saw someone putting a 1000 behind the cummins. He said the allison comes with its own computer and it can be connected somehow.

Lady close to me had the two for sale sitting in her driveway for $2500. 00.

A 24 valve and a 1000 all bolted together sitting on a skid. Came out of her motorhome.

Your'e right. They looked good together.

I drive a School bus (1999 BLUEBIRD 84 passenger) that has the allison 5 speed behind the 24V CUMMINS 5. 9 L. There is one hill I go up where the transmission is always shifting up/down. Could be the way it is geared. IT does have GOOD power!

ATS in Denver, has had a built up Allison, behind a Duramax producing over 700 RWHP, for quite awhile. I believe it's working well for them.

Suncoast has a build-up, also. I would imagine others do, also.

I remember a guy, here, that worked for DC in their research dept. saying that DC tried to adapt the Allison to the Cummins & that it didn't work very well. Their results showed that it wouldn't hold up to the torque produced by the Cummins, so, they backed out of the "marriage".

I read on the Diesel Place.com where DTT's upgrade didn't work very well, at all, for the Allison. At least that was one members experience. That was a number of months ago. They may have fixed the problem, by now. Their Dodge trans. upgrades are excellent, however. I can't recall ever hearing of anyone complaining about the Dodge/DTT trans. upgrade.

I was a little surprised to hear that they "seemed" to have a problem upgrading the Allison.

The older motorhomes typically used a 4-speed Allison with the 5. 9L. The newer ones use a 6-speed Allison "World" transmission. Unless I'm totally mistaken (certainly a possibility), I don't think any of the Class A diesel pushers are using the Allison 1000.

The freightliner mt45 chassis that we have at Fedex are using the at542 behind the 6bt . The 5. 9 isb is matted to the 1000. They seem to hold up very well.

That's what I'd love to install in my motorhome. The '542 is a stout unit but highway driving leaves alittle to be desired.

Maybe we need to look at how the RV chassis builders do it. Is the TCM tied in with the engine PCM or are they seperate units?

Check with Clint at ATS, I believe he was the one who told he was building some kind of 5 speed auto, not sure that it was an Allison though.

I drove for FedEx for a few years and I put that Allison 1000 through h3ll! :-laf Fred Smith would shoot me if he knew what we did to those trucks. I know for a fact that you can burn them up in a hurry if you are stuck and you keep shifting from D to R! :-laf I drive for UPS now. They have all kinds of combos! I drove one today that had the Freightliner/ 5. 9 mated to a Spicer 5 speed. Seemed nice enough.
