New to posting. Desperate need of assistance. 2001 stock Cummins with 135,000 trouble free miles. Have kept up with all maintenance, moved lift pump to frame rail, and change lift pump every 2 years to head off trouble (replaced 3 weeks ago). Truck broke down in OH. Timeline; 7 hours driving and no trouble. Fueled and drove another hour and my volt meter went to "0". Pulled off at exit and right battery was cooking (internal short?) disconnected negative lead. Started, ran fine, charging was good. 30 miles later "air bag" light came on/off/eventually stayed on. 10 min. later after pulling a hill cruise kicked off and I lost throttle. Got off 4 lane, shut down, bumped starter, lift pump wasn't running. Checked fuses/relays; all were good. Towed to shop, put it on scanner and they say it hasn't thrown any codes and lift pump isn't getting current. 4 1/2 hours away, so I can't just run over to check what they are doing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

Look for the obvious. melted/corroded wires. check around the alt. the ECM on dr. side of engine between VP and lift pump. also the PCM on pass. side firewall. The ECM controls charging, if the battery short resulted in an over load of the ECM /PCM or other wires. Also be SURE to check for GOOD grounds! The pass. side battery is 1/2 the grounding for the truck.

Thanks for the input DCreed! I called the shop this morning and they said it is fixed, but the shop foreman wasn't in so I'll have to call him later today. Hoping to pick it up tomorrow. I'll let you know what they found.

Truck is fixed and back home!!! If you are ever in Zanesville OH and need help, then please consider Lowry Towing (24 hour towing). They took really good care of me and very resonable price. It was a power lead (red wire/yellow stripe) going to the PCM that rubbed through at the shock tower.
