I was just wondering if you can paint over a dupont clear finish with a PPG paint?

I have no idea. The guy whose painting my truck uses dupont and the fella that is going to do the flames uses ppg, The flame guy said he don't like to paint with dupont but was unsure if he could paint over it with ppg.

Thanks

paint over

It should be ok if your dupont paint is cured and gassed off. Your local paint company should be able to tell you if you need to use recoat sealer under the PPG or not. I retired six years ago and have for gotten alot by choice i think. we always used PPG and never had the blow up problems and non compatability that we had with dupont. If it was catalized with the proper amount of cat, and has had time to gas off you should be ok but i would check on the recoat sealer just in case. You might try a small part like the gas door and see if you have a chemical reaction. good luck.

I'm just learning now myself but...

I've read all kinds of horror stories about "cross-linking" problems between paint brands as well as different types of paints within the same brand (using different catalysts). Negative effects to not correctly "cross-linking" has led to re-activation of the catalyst beneath it, leading to clouding or wrinkling and all sorts of other undesireable problems.

However, it should be ok if the base coat and/or clear coat was fully cured first.

I want to see the pictures when the flames are done. I want to have flames done on my truck when it gets painted.
