I read that if the BHAF gets wet it will fray, any experiences?

Is the wire mesh not inside an issue?

Does anyone have a picture of the baby BHAF (ah1141) installed on their truck?

Thank you. :)

The ONLY bad thing about the bhaf is that it uses under hood hot air. I'm working on a fix for that, and hoping that the mallory mount will help some. I just put in some grille inserts and that made it smoke a lot more, and I think my mileage is down a tad. You're really going to have to soak it to damage it any. I went through a car wash that sprayed directly down the cowl and it was fine.

The only bad thing here was getting hold of one.

Everyone around here says Fleetgaurd is backed up on them, and theres a 28 day wait to get it.

Was hesitant on getting the NAPA brand (Wix).

Just put the Wix in this morning, and ITS A KEEPER! This thing kills the K&N.

Truck runs great, and theres less intake noise as compared to the K&N RE-0880.

First seat o' pants impressions compared to the K&N & pre wrap are:

1. ) Definitely a LITTLE quicker spoolup - less smoke under the turbo. That was surprising, because I figured the K&N was flowing about as good as you can get.

2. ) EGT's about same. Cruising at 5lbs boost = 75mph / 625 degrees pre turbo. Havent tried towing yet.

3. ) Quieter intake noise. (some people wont like the turbo noise going away, but better for long hauls IMO)

4. ) Little smoother response on the throttle, because the VA sometimes overfuels a little when getting on & off the pedal, and makes it feel like a gasser running rich & gives a slight surge, smoother now since the turbo is spooled a little sooner & theres enough air to burn it.

5. ) Perfect fit.

6. ) NO OIL!!

Id say, if you still have the stock airbox, dont waste time & money playing around. Get that airbox outta there & put in the BHAF. You wont regret it.

The only reason you might not want to, is if your in an area where theres lots of water, & youre concerned about getting it wet. Id go w/ the Marine style in that case. Also get the outerwears prewrap, & it'll shed alot of water & dust.

I believe the Mega Cannon uses an oiled filter, just not a K&N. It is just another style of oiled filter that has much more filter area than a KNRE0880. I use the BHAF because I don't like the oiled filters...

Yea, might be a good filter, but alot of us dont care to have the oiled type. That was the main reason for replacing the RE-0880 w/ the BHAF.

Check the classifieds, there might be a couple for sale, mine's for sale in there too.

The Re-0880 filter works great. and gives that "superior" turbo sound. The mega cannon is probaby even better, but dont care for the oily film they leave in the turbo inlet. I know they say that means it was over-oiled, but you need the thing to filter out microdust. W/o enough oil, it wont do it.

Also for the price difference, 40-50 bucks for the BHAF compared to a couple hundred for the cannon, theres no camparison.

No oily residue from using the AFE Mega Cannon filter on my hose or turbo. Check out the next issue of the TDR, Joe D. writes an article comparing filters, the AFE system let the motor produce the highest HP of all tested, including NO filter at all.

No problem here, if you like the BHAF, great - I believe the AFE flows more air, which is what I needed to cool EGT's.

Sure seems it would get expensive replacing the BHAF every time it gets dirty. . Is there a sock for it. If it is bigger how can it possibly be more quiet?

sock for b.h.a.f.

I recall reading that outerwhere was making a sock for the b. h. a. f. & forgot to book mark the p. n. Anyone have this info ? Sorry to be off subject. ---Proflow

Heres the info.

Sorry I sorta "borrowed" the picture from a different poster, was the quickest way to get it to work.

They just had another batch of the wrappers made up at the end of last week, so you may be able to get one before they're out. Good Luck.

BHAF condoms

www.outerwearsracing.com makes a cover. 1-800-967-3450. see

https://www.turbodieselregister.com/user_gallery/displayimage.php?&photoid=551&width=1 for a pic of my cover. it is 6" orthopaedic stockinette, "free" from my office. working great. it's been on the filter for 7K miles. i'm going to replace it soon. filter underneath the sock still looks new, but the sock is beginning to look dirty. "disposable"--good feature.

i can buy the stockinette for about $1/yd. if there is enough interest, i can get it and sell it to TDR members. :)
