Are there any restrictions to bringing in diesel pickups or cars into California? I'm contemplating moving there but I own 2 diesels right now (04. 5 2500 and 09 Jetta TDI) and have no intention of replacing them in the near future. I've read about some of the issues here but would like to know a bit more if possible.

There are restrictions, however their diesel smog inspection is laughable at best. I'm not sure what you have done to the TDI, but looking at your truck signature i would just turn off the Quadzilla and hide it. They'll pull you in and pop the hood, the tech will give it a look over, plug into the OBD11 to look for codes, snap the throttle a few times and your done. 10 min tops, $70. Welcome to CA:-laf

I think the Jetta was only a 49 state car as there were some issues with smog for Ca. . I could be wrong though shouldn't stop you bringing them into commyfornia

No problem bringing federal diesels into Cali

Unless they were new/under 7500 miles

They will need to be smogged for initial

Registration

Just to let ya know that most of us NORMAL people who live in Ca are desperately trying to find a way out of Ca.

Everytime that I awake in the morning, this state gets worse and worse.

I really feel for the Californians. I travel to the San Fran area every year for buisness, and EVERY year I think how can the roads possibly get worse. EVERY year they are worse. Feels a little more Mexican every year.

Mild climate +liberal politics= heaven for bums.

I've got smog and registration upcoming for the '07. No tellin' where the money'll go this time. :{

I know this is true. I have friends in the Tulare area and they are just regular farm folks. Too bad that the good has to go along with the bad.

I went through a bunch of BS getting mine smogged. Turned out some of the OBD II diag monitors were never turned on during my build date.

Funny thing the first time I failed the guy behind me had a 06 with all kinds of mods (Stacks, fuel box etc) and he passed while my 05 stocker failed.

I recently got a memo from Chrysler saying that my ECM is "warrantied for life". So if you dont mind the additional cost of going to a dealer you might save some time getting it smogged.

Im sure the ECM issue with the OBD system is what they are providing the additional coverage (Reflash). Just make sure you have all the visual stuff like the Cat, and stock air cleaner. I am hearing if there is a CARB certification on some of the aftermarket intake systems you'll pass.

I lived in Mount Vernon Wa for a year on my job. Miss the state and peeps there but not the winters. California sucks dude! The climate is a gem. But the Obama loving population sucks#@$%!. Try and find a more conservative area like Orange County (So Cal) to live in if possible!!!!!

Mac:cool:

I'm originally from Nor Ca and have lived in/around the Tulare area since 2005.

This is truely a P%SS pot waiting to boil over. I used to complain how bad it was in Nor Ca and now I have no reason to complain.

At least the north end of the state (besides the GAY area) has held on tight and has stood, sure footed for what the people believe in.

I hate to make waves but the reason that the Ca has so many illegal aliens is because of the farming industry. The farmers brought them here.

I'm a huge history buff and you want to argue the point, BRING IT ON.

Immigrant labor is essential for the farming industry. Why they did away with the Bracero program,I'll never know.

We've got moochers of every shade here.

Don't be fooled. The Bracero Working Permit Program was nothing more than a form of legalized salvery. There were thousands (just like now) that came here w/o the Bracero program to work.

Once the permit expired, the documented immigrant was required to go back to Mexico. Or, you could cross w/o a permit and stay as long as you like (just like now).

Even with another Bracero or similar program, they'd still come here illiegally simply because they could fly low under the radar and do as they choose.

Some humane program could be arranged to enable the workers to come up,work, sleep in a decent space and return to Mexico legally.

There's gotta be a way.

I wouldn't mind paying 10% more to cut them a break and give them some protections.

Our vegetable garden beat me up this year. :)

What do ya think about taking the inmates in prison and making them pick. No pick no work no eat. Jail is a club med to the A holes make it hard on them maybe crime will go down. It has to go down if we stop illegals

Thanks for the info. The job is in Bay Point that I'm considering. Not sure where I'd store my sleds and doesn't look like I could hunt out my back door down there. We'll see how it goes...

Thats about an hour away from me, not my favorite place in Cali but not to many hippies in that area.
