Need new tires on truck. Anyone have any comments on Goodyear Wrangler AP 235-85-16's.

Price is right, and they are the new version with the addition of 2 nylon cords in sidewall.

TIA

I can't tell you anything about the new wranglers but I can tell you this much. I have a 97 Jeep wrangler which had wrangler GT tires on it from the factory when purchased. The Jeep vibrated at various speeds and I had the tires balanced e times over the life of the tires. (20,000 miles).
I finally decided to get new tires and replaced the Good years with Michelin XCX/APT
and you can't believe how this Jeep handles and rides. It rides like a Caddy and handles like a Jeep should. I have Michelins
on my 01. 5 RAM 2500 LTX M/S 265/75 16E and I really love these tires.

Just me . 02 worth.

In my experience, Goodyear tires are bottom of the barrel quality. Poor roundness, distorted sidewalls, and poor tread life. My best tires have been BFG, in every respect. They make the "All Terrain A/T" now with a "KO" designation. This tire is backed by a written warranty that states that if you get stuck, they will pay to get you pulled out.
Pretty good tires, even without the tow statement.
Ron

I recently switched from my second set of Goodyears to a set of Michelin LT265 75/R16 M/S. No comparison, it's as if they smoothed all the roads. I have had bad luck with Goodyear throwing treads as well.

Save your money goodyear tires are crap, always out of round poor traction as you can tell I hated my goodyear tires never buy them again.

I have had several Wranglers blow out and have tread separation just like the fabled Firestones were doing. Never got any satisfaction or even any pro-rating from Goodyear. Their tires are out of round, junk, and they don't stand behind them. I too think Dodge got them because they got a bargain. My vote: anything but Goodyear.

Believe it or not I was told at the tire shop to not buy them. The man told me he can't keep them in balance. This was at a Discount tire shop.

Even with a good price on GY, too many negative comments and not one good one. So, Michelins it will be. Thanks to everyone for their input, you convinced me.

I will make a postive comment for Goodyears, but not in a light truck tire. I have had nothing on my car for 210K, never a flat, and the dealers have always treated me fair when prorating. They don't always go the mileage, but if they are fair on the replacement costs it is OK with me. Other than the original Goodyears, I have run the Aqua Tred. A nice tire IMO.

I would go with Michelin. I have never had any luck with Goodyear tires on my trucks or a conversion van I used to own. I have Michelin 215/85R/16's on the truck that came from Dodge when I bought the truck. I have 52. 5K on them right now and I expect to get another 10-12K. I know what I will buy when the truck needs new shoes.

Goodyear and Goodyear Tires su*** Sorry gentlemen and ladies, I've had many years of difficulties with goodyear Tires. Can be very difficult to balance and keep balanced. They also have a bad habit of going out of round after several thousand miles. last ones I had on a truck were 1997. I will say I've had good luck with their Marathon Trailer tires in 15" sizes.

Another late vote against Goodyear. I had Wrangler AT as OEM tires, and they were awful. I tried Cooper Discoverer LT - well-cooked (required almost no weights at all), but didn't last very long. Currently running Bridgestone M773 commercial all-terrains in the 215/85R16E size, and couldn't be happier. A hair cheaper than Michelin XPS Traction, and much more durable. They come with sidewall ribs for those pesky curbs, and they work great - my outer right rear Goodyear was almost sanded smooth from abrasion. Check em out at http://www.bridgestone-usa.com/products/BSD-M773.htm

I could not wait to unload the GY's on my '97. They are hard riding in my opinion with poor traction. I went with a set of 285 Dunlops. Big difference in ride and stability. Wear longer as well.

I wouldn't have a GOODYEAR tire if I was given a 100 of them. For that matter, I wouldn't have anything GOODYEAR makes, FIRESTONE either.

My experience with Goodyear tires has been dismal. (The Goodyear *people* were OK. ) Of the five Goodyear Wrangler ATs that came on my 96, three (yes, three!) had shoulder separations. One on the ground, one in the bed as a spare, and one with 90 miles on it. The first one was adjusted under their extended warranty at 7,000 miles. My "free" tire cost me $104. The last one, the 90 mile tire, cost me 55 cents plus a nickel tax on pro-rata. I just had them toss the unmounted tire into the bed, then I took it to Discount Tire where they gave me a trade-in on a Michelin. I would not waste my money on anything except Michelin.

I sold Goodyears tires while working in the Dodge parts bussiness and found them to be the worst. We always had trouble getting and warranty from them and the tires were always trouble. I prefer the Mich. and was very relieved to see them on my pre ordered truck. I did have a problems with mich. that I had put on my wifes Dynasty and Costco replaced them all for $16. 00 apiece after two years of use. My 2cents worth

Dont know a lot about Michelin tires but the truck I just bought has em and the tire waaranty papers with it and they have 79,000 on them and the backs need replaced but the fronts are half there still. Dont know how you could beat that. I checked the serial #s just to make sure it wasnt old paper work. Awsome tires.

I switched from 285 wrangler at/s, to bridgestone dueler a/t. I am happy with the ride, though i have never had the michelins, i just couldn't afford them.

If I was you i would go with cooper S/Ts They are a very nice tire and they dont make much noise but give you a LOT of bite, i am going with them as soon as my Kellys are gone.
