Is there such a thing as a person who locates vehicles?

Rotella CJ-4...interesting observation...

Does anyone here have a Jeep Liberty diesel? I am looking at one right now, an 06, with extremly low miles. Any problems, good stuff, bad stuff?

The only experience I have with them is the guy down the street has one... he gets 26mpg and has had no issues at all...

I have an 06, and the more I drive it the more I like it. It makes a very nice commuter. There are a few recalls on them, however. If you get the vin number of the one you are looking at, you can go to the jeep website, and check to see if the recalls have been done. You should also go to the L. O. S. T. web site and look in the diesel Liberty forum. Lots of good info there.

we have had nothing but trouble with our 05 been in the shop more than we have had it. Seems alot better after the last batch of recalls done (gone the longest without a problem). I hope it is fixed! I just love it though gets about 25 mpg which seems low to me.

My nephew in the Navy has one he has had a few issues with it besides the recall. He still loves it. We have had it out to Glamis in the sand dunes quite a few times,it has pretty good power. It will climb most of the bigger dunes. Only time will tell what it will be like with higher miles.

We've got an '06. Other than the four or five recalls and the poor Chrysler Service we love the truck. It's my wife's - gets 26 in the summer and anywhere from 17-22 in the winter- depends on how cold it is. We did have an opportunity to check it's cold-weather startablility this last winter- no plug in and started at -30 after sitting overnight. We were pretty happy with that. PM me if you would like any more details.

My wife really likes hers. Its got almost 20k on it now and it seems to be past the bugs. If its an 06 it will have the 3/36 warranty, 05's had the 7/70. If you are buying from a dealer, you might want to try and push for a Chrysler extended powertrain warranty. Parts for that little VM motor make Cummins look like the dollar store.

DC on the bandwagon

Seems like something that weighs quite less than a CTD should get better MPG ?? Heck, a 4BT gets better than that... wtf ?

My wife has one and we love it. It's so much fun to drive, but I hardly ever get the chance. No issues with ours. We've done one reflash recall (which was emissions related) and a few TSBs. The known issues are:

Lower ball joints (not tie rod)- recalled on all Libbys. Brake heat melts boot and grease leaks out.

CCV is crap and will let all kind of oily goo into intercooler - a good fix is in the works but a easy temporary fix is to just make it a open vent. 15$ and 5 minutes.

There are some EGR issues but then what EGR diesel doesn't have issues.

Biggest issue is the torque convertor. Inadequate just like every other diesel auto. There is a recall but ours works fine and I don't think I like the recall.

Mileage is good but could be better (thanks EPA). The above LOST forum is quite good info. Remember though, the only folks that complain are the ones with problems so the forums look worse that the real incidence of problems. 75%+ of owners on the LOST forum are very pleased with the little CRD. I can't wait for my wife to get tired of it so I can make it my little scooter pooper. Problem is she says she's keeping it forever :)

We have had a 2006 CRD for almost a year, almost 9000 miles.

Recalls have been for a torque converter (make sure they replace the transmission pump) and ball joints.

As with the Ram, dealer makes or breaks the ownership pleasure.

Typical Dodge crap on parts, when the replacement torque convertor came in the new trans cooler was trashed (box wasn't damaged). Lots of arguing between the service manager and Star (whoever @ Dodge) for authorizations, etc.

Forgot to add F 37 reflash drops the torque to protect the new torque converter, and no way around that. So far no one has found a way to get around the reflash once it is done, though aftermarket guys are working on it. Sound familar to auto's in diesel Rams!!!!!!!!!

Might wait...

It is a little small for us and the dogs. Guess I will wait until they come out with a Grand Cherokee diesel. . It does sound like a pretty good little buggy though, was going to trade Maws VW bug TDI. She kind of kaboshed that idea... :D

I looked into them when they first hit the dealers. I thought one would be an ideal replacement for my VW Tdi plus it could tow my Scag around. I expected a lot better mileage and decided I would be happier buying a used 12 valve for less money.
