My "kit"
The kit is a replica of the famed 1965 AC Cobra, made by Factory Five racing. There are several other companies in the states and one in Oz that specialize in this market. I did a great deal of research before choosing Factory Five not only because they are the cheapest, but their engineering (period correct TUBULAR steel frame not square channel among other things), loyal customer following (they've sold over 5000 since 1995) were impressive.
Most people associate "kit cars" with the fiberglass monstrosities of the 70's that used Volkswagen chassis and running gear. THose days are OVER!. This is a frame up replica (with major improvements due to todays technology) that when complete easiliy exceeds the performance of the original. Indeed it exceeds the performance of even the most exotic supercars on the planet.
With this kit ($11,990) and a donor 88-93 mustang 5. 0(~$2600) you get everything you need to build a car that absolutely RUNS away from anything on the road. This car registers and titles AS a 1965 AC Cobra.
I've chosen on my kit to skip the 302, and use a 427 big block which adds quite a bit to the cost (450+ horsepower in a 2300lb car, yeeeowwwww!).
The factory sells the kits FOB Wahreham, Mass. so thats why I was askin around on here to see if I could get a better price than their recomended carrier, who wants 1300 to ship to California. (More than I had thought it would cost).
