Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Any Ideas

My father just called me about ten minutes ago. He is on his way back to NH from Pittsburgh PA to Keene NH. He has a 01 dodge 3500 4x4 with an auto, banks power pack. He says that the truck is missing. Almost like a fowled plug on a gasser. He has no codes when he checked the Turn key 3 times method. He does have an appointment with the dealer on monday Just hoping to have an idea on what it is.

We changed to fuel filter on Monday and the lift pump, didn't sound like it was coming on at ALL so better safe than sorry. The truck has been doing this for a week and a half. Sometimes once a day to 3-4 times an hr.

Injection pump or APPS (accelerator pedal position sensor).

My vote would be for a plugged injector caused by dirt getting in at the filter change. The APPS isn't likely to cause a miss.

That happened to my truck for the past month with on/off symptoms. I checked for codes, but got nothing except po1693. I checked codes with smarty & got po121 for APPS [tps] not communicating with map sensor. It got to the point where the truck shut off & check engine light kicked on. First signs were bucking & missing, but only at low to mid throttle. Where is he at now? I am South of Pittsburgh in good ole Pa.

Check the pump tap connection for the Banks power pack. My brothers truck did the same thing and his tap wire was loose.

I will have him check apps and the pump wire. He did make it home last night after dealing with all the other idiots on the road in the snow. (you think that people driving in New England would be used to all the snow. Appreciate all the posts will let you know how he makes out. Take care

My appologies things got busy. Whatever the problem was cured itself. Stopped losing power on the way home and hasn't done it since. So not sure what it was. Thanks for all the info though.

Yep... . same day that it happened. I cleared the code with smarty & accelerator started working again at mid to full throttle only..... so I drove straight to the cummins shop & changed it out. Problem solved.
