Any Info On Water Injection?

HAS ANY ONE OUT HERE USED WATER?I heard it cleans,it cools and it makes power. any pro's&con's would be appreciated. also any problems useing water inj. with cold weather in new england. thanks--LA

plenty have used it. most run washer fluid in the colder weather to protect from freezing

The washer fluid I use is 38% methonal.

One of our members runs it on his hot drag truck. I've got pics somewhere of the oil down the side of his truck from where the massive pressure blew a gasket. Twice.



It creates wicked power, he had to stud and firering the head to keep gaskets intact before he could really get it dialed in.

Water in the fuel dows a number of things. As fuel is not just a combustible but also performs other functions (lubrication & cooling), any water in the fuel displaces the fuel with a resulting loss in lubrication and cooling. Usually water in the fuel will cause fuel system damage (fuel pump and injectors), however if water does make its way into the combustion chamber, the high temperatures will convert it into steam, which can cause further damage, usually blowing the tips off injectors.



I'm fighting an issue with ferd right now on one of my new new service trucks (imagine a Cummins distributor using ferd trucks with powersmokers . . . wish Dodge made a truck that was big enough to take a service body with a crane). With less than 2000 miles on the engine they have determined that water ingestion caused cylinder scoring in three holes. Can you say litigation? I knew you could!

Um, he's not talking about water IN fuel, which is BAD. He's talking about misting/atomizing water in the intake AIR. Yes, too much is bad, but it can be a good thing in reasonable amounts.

jeepdude, I figured he was talking about atomizing water in the intake air (we did it in turbines to increase air density, thereby combustion. we even had a model that injested vast amounts of steam, boosting hp 50%!). Most of the research I saw on water injection (?) had extensive discussion on entrainment of the water in the fuel as a result of the atomization. Thanks for clarifying tho . . .
