I was checking to see if there is any interest in a heavy duty laptop stand for our trucks at a reasonable price. I am a hotshotter, and had a need for a good laptop mount, but was unhappy with the quality and price of all the ones I found. I took the next step and made one out of heavy welded steel, with a nice wooden top accented in aluminum with a non skid pad.

I have used this one over the road, and I must say that it works out great for portable computing and gps use. Much better than the expensive universal types.

This mount uses a small base that permanently attaches to the floor on the side of the transmission hump, almost under the seat. It is easilly and quickly removable and looks great.

I was checking interest, because I am considering making more and selling if there is enough interest. I could get them out to members for around 75 bucks.

Great deal for a custom mount that has been proven over the road!!!

Let me know;)

I would love one. As a matter of fact, your timing is unbelievable, I was just getting ready to shop for one. One question: what is a 'hotshotter'?

Laptop mount

Ok... I will make them!!!!! All interested please email me at -- email address removed -- .

Thanks a bunch for the interest!!!!:)

I can get these made and sent out pretty quickly! I have paypal for those interested in that. Email me, and we'll discuss it further.

Thanks,

Mike Burke

By the way... . A hotshotter is someone who makes a living hauling frieght, in my case a gooseneck trailer and my Ram.

More pictures

My pics really don't do the mount justice. The base is heavy steel, and the metal on the platform to the wood is tapped in heavy steel.

the mount is removeble, but hard to see in the pictures.

I am a bit biased, but I believe it is better than most out there for a fraction of the cost.

and yet more

Hmmm... . just bought a laptop and wondering how to carry the laptop around in the truck and also to get a GPS hooked up - you know, the guy with the most toys wins. However, it looks like you have an auto, therefore the setup you have might not work for me since I have a stick.

So, will this work for the guys with a stick?

Second, I don't quite see how it mounts, although it looks like it can handle a beating.

Go back and look at the 1st picture in the thread... ... thats a stick shift truck its mounted in... ...

One of the later pictures shows the base of the unit with the bolt holes... ... it bolts to your floor board as best I can tell and can be removed leaving the base plate in place... ... same as all the other similar units I have checked out while searching for one. Where this one excels is it is half the money and appears to be at minimum TWICE the quality... ... Not to mention its a fellow ram driver and TDR member :)

I just ordered one of them from Mike tonight and have a tentative order for 20 more for use in our company trucks once I have reviewed the 1st one... ... .

No problem... works with stick or auto

Just as shaft stated, there is no problem with mounting in either stick shift or auto transmission trucks. These work well in other vehicles too. They seem to be pretty universal.

Secure Laptop

I'm not that familiar with the other types, but is there any way to secure the laptop to the mount? I currently leave mine on top of the center console and it slides around a lot. Not that I drive bad mind you ;)

If you used it for a while, do you find a need to secure the laptop?

Thanks!

Chris

No sliding

I don't have any sliding issues. The laptop sits at a slight angle the lets it rest against a small piece of aluminum, plus I include a non skid mat to lay on the platform under the laptop. Seems to really work nicely.

Thanks for the interest and question;)

Mike is it a quick disconect at the base? Can you just leave the mounting plate on the floor and take the column and top off when you don't need it??

I would be very interested but do not need a lap top in the cab all the time.

Also what are the dimmensions of the top? Just wondering if my lap tops are the right size for it.

Thanks

Ted

I have been using mine sitting on the console also... ... . and I found something that works REALLY GOOD to stop it from sliding around... ... it will also work great on the stand.

Go by autozone (or your favorite auto store) and buy a small roll of that non-slip padding that mechanics use in their toolbox trays... ... cut a piece to fit the top of your console or your laptop stand and place the laptop on it... ...

On my console I sit the laptop sort of angled with part of the laptop hanging over the front of the console and part hanging off the passenger side so I can see the screen perfectly while driving... ... I can SLAM on brakes and it will NOT budge... ... . and this is with roughly 1/4 to 1/3 of the base of the laptop hanging off in the air... ... Try it... ... best thing since canned beer :D

The mount is permanant, and the large part (platform and shaft) are quick disconnect.

The stand does not interfere with the passenger at all. There is still plenty of room.

The base mount that mounts permanant is barely detectable when the stand is removed.

Any more questions, please ask!!!!!;)

OK, one more question. Since the bottom has a disconnect, how much wiggle (vibrating) occurs because of that? If there is no wiggle, how are you keeping the connection tight. Thanks.
