How much ~BOOST~ is safe???

Craig Johnson is thinking about setting up a group purchase of Spearco Intercoolers if we can find an additional six people that want one.

They are available for both 2nd and 3rd gens. The manufacturer claims 50% more surface area than stock, 150 degree reduction in EGT's, 75 degrees cooler intake temps, and no boost loss across the intercooler.

You can read more about the product here:

Anybody interested? You can PM cjohnson for the proposed pricing. If we can get enough interest up, the hope is to get it done before Christmas.

Is this a simple R&R for a 2nd gen. 24V? Are any modifications required for install?

What are the features of this that price it almost at twice of some other brands? I'm interested, but need some credible product info to justify.

Comparisons to other offerings such as BD, PDR, City Diesel, etc. ?

I can't speak for all of these ad I am not familir with them, but I do know that the Banks and Bd units utilize a tube and fin style core where as the Spearco use a bar and plate core design which is far stronger(capable of over 250 psi) and much denser, resulting in much better cooling. In my opinion, there is no comparison between the two, but there is a price that comes with this design.

To my knowledge, most all other designs use the tube and fin style, similar to the stock design and what most radiators use, because the cost for bar and plate is quite a bit more.

I understand the differences between both types of cores, but we are not going to see 250psi so the cost isnt justified in my eyes. All of them do the same job dropping egts and maybe one looks better then the other. Now I dont know how much the group purchase is but for a 1000 bucks or so you can get a BD or City Diesel intercooler if you search hard enough on the web.
