Any last arguments against the SUPER "B" turbo

I am about 24 hours away from phoning in an order for a BD-power Super "B" turbo ---



Any last comments as to if this is a mistake?



PS - under $1000, so that has a big part in the decision (dont ask, cause I wont tell)



I would love to hear from an UNHAPPY customer with one... Cause I have heard quote a few happy customers, and the guy at BD says he has NOT HAD even ONE come back blown... amazing??? I think so, if it is true

PS - Bd claims a drive ratio to boost of close to 1:1 (that was a major concern for me)

Good luck with the turbo! I wonder if it will cure the "bark" problem so many are having with the stocker?

This turbo seems to be very good from what I read. Most guys

report no turbo "bark" and good EGT's. Most with the HBT2 say they still

experience bark. The super B is "almost" just bolt in.



This would be my choice if I had $1000 I didn't know what to

do with.

i love mine. have had it on for about 3 weeks now. absolutely love it.



truck hits 40 lbs boost quite easily. lag seems about same as stock, sometimes better. extremely responsive.



when under medium to high load, it sounds more like a big truck sound.



best part on mine is the fact that cruising at 65, it is dead silent. however if you want to hear it, just pick it up a few MPH!!!



2,2 is now like 4,2 used to be.



i haven't had it over 4,4 because the roads have not been clean enough to keep from spinning.



it is a strange feeling to get into it at 70 on the interstate and feel it break loose.



and don't cut the boost hose that goes from the turbo to the intercooler

what about comments on Justins opinion that it is a step backward from the stock turbo? I read the the super bee pinwheel is actually smaller than stcock.

I do know one thing, These 3rd gens are a whole different beast. . So the fact that the super "B" lost power VS an HX40 is not very important if it was not on a Commonrail truck (i dont know what year the truck was)



Heck, who would have though duration and extrudehoned injectors do not go together as good as with the 2nd gens ???



The stock turbo has made 2:1 drive pressure to boost, I heard this from a source I deem reliable... So the BD super "B" has a drive ratio much lower, closer to 1:1 -- that is important to me and lets me know this is not a step backwards (also there might be some floating valve issues here)



Also - I am not really looking to "make" hp with just a turbo, But the TST fuels to 35lbs, and I will not let my stocker play up there, too risky



Time will tell, I am meeting someone tommorow to see first hand a super"B" on a 3rd gen, he is running a Bullydog DL'er and an EZ -- should be interesting

After all this, I think I made one decision:



The wifes going to colorado on the 21st --So I think I will go to Columbus,IN that weekend... Hook up a Super "b" - Dynobefore and after, measure drive pressure, and that should despell any myths... What could it be, 2hrs to swap that thing out?



And I still have heard of any Super "B" going BOOM!! -- Not that they haven't, but no ones piped up yet



By the way about the super"B" only holding 375 - My stocker is holding that with no barking, and not towing(at least the way I have drive), but still doing burnouts, racing, etc...



WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT WE WOULD HAVE SO MANY TO CHOSE FROM !!!!

For the 03-04 trucks the super B is a step forward in Compressor wheel size by a couple of mm's.

For the 04. 5-05 units the super B would be a step backward by about 4mm compressor wheel IIRC.



For any 3rd gen the super B would provide superior back pressure reducing performance.

The turbine housing appears to be about a 12cm or 14cm housing that is shared by the B104, HTT's, and Super B's.

This housing is probably a Schwitzer unit.



As we all know the turbine housing on 3rd gens are 9cm and have a really small turbine wheel.

The wheel on the Super B is much larger and will obviously flow alot more.



So for the 03 and 04 trucks the super B will be a step forward.

For the 04. 5 and 05 you will see reduced back pressure, but you could lose hp across the board from the smaller comp wheel size.



IMO.

The Super B is a huge step forward, on at least my 03,This turbo pulls way harder, has less egts, less smoke & definatly more end hp over my stock turbo. Also this turbo has a one year warranty - Ill say this, besides my Tst, this is the BEST mod yet. This turbo is hard to bark & has no lag over stock that I can notice.

My comment is based on actual foot to the floor driven, not old posts on second generation trucks or hear say, or some measurements, or what ifs.

I can afford a bigger turbo or twins, but this turbo works so good I see no reason to.

Now with the extra money I saved I just ordered the Kore leveling kit with bilsteins all around. ( win win situation. )

My post is based on personal experience.

Although I have not driven the Super B, I have held it in my hands and checked it over.

I have also handled many 03, 04 04. 5 and 05 turbos.

I also run an aftermarket turbo on my 04. 5, and have ran them on my 99.

I have heard nothing but good about the Super"B" myself. I am stuck in a pickle, do I go with the Super "B" alone or do I spend the extra dough and get them TWINS



I can get a great deal on twins so I know I should probably go that route, BUT it's still a butt load of money.



Like what has been stated, I haven't heard of any problems with the Super "B" on any 3rd gens as of yet.

Well, I can tell you one thing SIZE does matter when it comes to compressor wheels and turbine wheels for that matter.

Along with a host of other things that go into a turbo.

Do you have any DYNO results with this turbo on a 3rd gen??



PS - on a side note, what would a 2004. 5 turbo do on a 03?? It is a bigger comp. wheel right?

You will see a performance gain with the 04. 5 turbo on an 03 or 04 truck.

The compressor wheel on the 04. 5's are 62mm IIRC.



I expect somewhere in the 500rwhp mark (dynojet) with the new turbo.

With the stock turbo on the 04. 5 I was able to get 462hp and 945 ft lbs.

Those are the high numbers off 2 different dynos (disclaimer!).
