McKinney,

I think the turnouts don't look as good being tall on a single wheel truck... they look great on dualies though. I hear ya on wanting to get the sound up and away, that's why I made mine a little tall, and I don't think yours look "bad" by any means, but I think they'd look a little better a little shorter. now, if you're going to try to french them into a canopy, I'd leave them as is for obvious reasons. heck, I'd probably leave them as is out of laziness! LOL!

one thing you stack guys should ALL try is pulling the headliner and putting a couple layers of sound deadener up there on the interior sheet metal. I also drilled a couple holes in each of the pockets in the metal (you'll see what I'm talking about) and shot about 7 total tubes of liquid nails up between the inner and outer sheet metal. I lined my roof w/ two layers of 1/8" lead sheet attatched with liquid nails "paneling" adhesive (used regular construction adhesive between the roof layers) and put another layer of 1/8" here and there where there were large open spaces.

interior resonance volume was probably cut in half or so.

FWIW, I'm planning on getting a pair of turnouts facing backwards. I'm probably going to make them a little shorter than what I've got now. 3-4" or so. mainly looking to make the exhaust note a little louder outside the cab. w/ miter cuts, it shoots all that noise straight up, and it's not as loud outside. my 5" straight pipe was LOUD!! I kinda miss being that obnoxious. :p

forrest: how long did it take ya to sound proof that sheet metal under your headliner? i'll be installing my cablights in the next few weeks and since the headliner is already going to be down that sounds ideal.

mckinney- Those stacks must be about 4' tall? Mine are. Look good. I'd prefer turnouts though. I think they look nicer on the Rams and you can turn them such, that you won't get much soot on them. Have plenty on mine.

When my brother comes up from Texas for Christmas, I'll try and get some new pics up. Truck looks completely different now, from what is in my RR gallery.

not long at all. I'd HIGHLY recomend doing it!!! maybe double layer or at least double up in spots where you get the most resonance when hitting it w/ a closed fist.

bmoeller,

They are 47 3/4" from the cab floor to the bottom of the stack opening+ 9" to the top. I measured to be sure they were even. I drove about 60 miles today with them. Sure did get alot of curious looks. There is only one other truck with stacks around here that I know of. It's a '91 W250 about the same length. They sound so good on his that I felt I needed some too. Of couse the 24v w/auto won't sound as good as his 12v w/5speed. But good enough I think.

Forrest,

The reason I won't cut them at the bottom is they are 6" reduced to 5" at the bottom. I haven't found any 6" connectors so I'd have to order them and wait another week or so. I'll just leave them for now. Maybe I'll convert it to a dually later on. ;) Seriously, the next step is marking and cutting the holes in the canopy. Hopefully not turning into a big piece of fiberglass garbage.

My biggest concern now is running the pipe under the bed to both stacks. (and waiting for parts) I'm just posing now as they are not connected. I got some good advice from Mike bbb. Just haven't got all the details worked out yet.

im sure that will be one of my projects i have planned when i go home from a week in Jan... . i'll take some pics and post em.

I'm REALLY not trying to rain on your parade, but I'm not sure how you plan on running 5" under the bed. :(

you might want to get some 3 or 4 to 6 reducers.

Forrest

Forrest,

Those are the pieces that I have on order. I will reduce to 4" and run that to a "Y" then run 4" forward close to the downpipe and reduce to 3" or get a 4" downpipe. It was done before by another member in 4" flex. It will be a trick to get done but I won't lose the bed space this way which is the main reason I have a truck.

bmoeler,

yes I could order them, just takes time to get. I don't have alot right now before a deployment and it's been raining so I haven't even been out to fit the pipe I do have. Worst case I'll take it in to a truck shop and have it custom bent.
