McKinney,
I think the turnouts don't look as good being tall on a single wheel truck... they look great on dualies though. I hear ya on wanting to get the sound up and away, that's why I made mine a little tall, and I don't think yours look "bad" by any means, but I think they'd look a little better a little shorter. now, if you're going to try to french them into a canopy, I'd leave them as is for obvious reasons. heck, I'd probably leave them as is out of laziness! LOL!
one thing you stack guys should ALL try is pulling the headliner and putting a couple layers of sound deadener up there on the interior sheet metal. I also drilled a couple holes in each of the pockets in the metal (you'll see what I'm talking about) and shot about 7 total tubes of liquid nails up between the inner and outer sheet metal. I lined my roof w/ two layers of 1/8" lead sheet attatched with liquid nails "paneling" adhesive (used regular construction adhesive between the roof layers) and put another layer of 1/8" here and there where there were large open spaces.
interior resonance volume was probably cut in half or so.
FWIW, I'm planning on getting a pair of turnouts facing backwards. I'm probably going to make them a little shorter than what I've got now. 3-4" or so. mainly looking to make the exhaust note a little louder outside the cab. w/ miter cuts, it shoots all that noise straight up, and it's not as loud outside. my 5" straight pipe was LOUD!! I kinda miss being that obnoxious.
