I was curious if they got this problem fixed on the new ones, been kicking around the idea of moving from 2nd gen truck up to a third gen.

I was told by my Service Advisor that 3rd gens do not have the issues that the older units had. Let's hope he is right but time will tell... ...

There have been some failures although not a lot. It appears to be mainly on trucks with performance enhancements and those that idle a LOT.

Most failures reported on the Diesel sites are in the far north. Alaska/Canada etc. Seems to be a fuel blend issue also. Also no where near the amount of the older style. Just a few.

Mine went at just over 50k & inj pump soon after. Buddies went at 38k. There have been lots of failures around here. I think the biggest problem is 10 micron filter. If they went to a 2 micron failures would not happen.

1) Failures still happen on the 3rd gens. Maybe not as often

2) CP-3 common rail pump seems to be less susceptable to lift pump failure damage than the 2nd gen VP-44's. Haven't heard of a CP-3 failure due to a lift pump failure

3) The '05's apparently have the lift pump relocated back to the tank. This may solve the lift pump issue forever.

Sounds like they have made some progress, but still have some work to do. I wonder why these things have so many issues? Only thing I can figure is because of the electronics, I always preferred mechancial over electrical. If they did move the pump back closer to the tank, this may solve the problem.

Mine went @ 26000km. I work in the oil patch up here and alot of these guys have gone through two within 100 000 km. They say it's the fuel but i haven't herd of any duramax or power stroke's that have had that problem so as far as i am concerned it is still a pretty big issue.

A friend of mine that works at a diesel shop had this to say on another site.

We've had two trucks die-no start, and both had failed fuel pressure regulators. It seems the common rail system is very sensitive to having clean filters. Bosch says no more than 8k miles on a fuel filter... both ad less than 15k mi. Both trucks were under warranty and were covered. The regulators are $300 bucks!

just a heads up :)

I changed mine at 10K miles and it was pretty nasty... . kind of a black color.

No problems here with 17K miles.

Guess it all depends...

I changed my fuel filter for the first time at around 13k and it looked as clean as the new one I replaced it with. So I suppose it just depends alot on the luck of the draw when you go fill up and how well the fueling stations have maintained their equipment.
