What Joe said. But the bottom line is that you would have to have one AMAZING deal in order to be better off with the '03.
Brakes: '03 is much larger and more powerful. This is why they now have 17" wheels.
Frame: "03 is made of thinner metal, but hydroformed to be stronger. It relies more on shape and design for strength. It is stiffer than the '01.
Injection system: '03 is common rail- the wave of the future. LOTS of power potential here, and should be almost p-pump reliable.
Axles: '03 Switched from Dana/Spicer to American Axles. These are both heavier and stronger, but have fewer aftermarket options.
Engine: aside from injection system, the oiling on the newer engines is a little better-- ESPECIALLY on the HO engines.
Steering: '03 has a much quicker steering ratio, and I think they now use rack-and-pinion.
Track bar: properly designed on the '03s, so you shouldn't have the premature wear of the 2nd Gens.
These are the differences that aren't immediately noticeable-- there are a lot more.
