Anybody?

After my truck runs under load, when I roll up to a stop sign and push in the clutch, the RPM dips to about 650, then surges to about 850, then drops to around 750. This all happens in about 1. 5 seconds.

Anybody seeing this with any make or model of box?

Thanks!

Peter

Surging

JThacker,

I had (have) the same surging as you do. There is a thread on this topic. It is fairly common.

I had the surge prior to adding the VA level II box and after it was installed.

I still had the surge after I installed the level I VA box.

Not a big deal.

I have the 600, manual and the Predator 2 box. I get a very similar idle increase and drop. Reminds me of the days with my gasser TPI 350 motor!

BUT I think it also did this wihout the box so..... not sure.

:{ Now your gonna make me unplug the box and check!!! ;)

I have the 305 and an Edge on it. It surges at idle too. It doesn't do it when it warms up to operating temp... just when its cold. Sometimes right after filling up with fuel. Its kinda intermittent. I don't worry about it though.

still totally stock 04. 5 2wd 6 sp... mine does it all the time... don't like it much. I think my rpm span is a little further apart than you are saying though... 3 pretty pronounced surges then it evens out. So, don't feel bad about your box.

I am relieved to see that it is a common issue, I have had no codes, and lots of power with good EGT's, but the surge worried me. I have been running around taking video clips of it, I should be able to email them to anyone if you are interested.

Also, I installed an Autometer phantom EGT gauge; I used the SRT10 a-pillar, it looks nice, and only took a couple nights after work to install it.

Howdy,

Those that had this problem, is it still happening? If it went away, after how many miles?

My 04. 5 600 4x2 6-speed has done it since day 1. About 2000 miles and it's still happening.

The dealer claims DC told them it's just the computer learning my driving habits... I had an 04 SO 5-speed that never did this.

Thanks

Tim

Mine did it stock, then cleared up, now its back and I am running the TST box. I haven't decided fully yet, but this seems to be a cold weather thing. Mine did it before the TST, but in summer, it went away, and now that we are into winter, it is back, with the TST on. Its not the box. I think it is temperature related, but has nothing to do with whether the engine is warmed up or not, seems to be an ambient temp thing.

My truck has done it since day one... I have about 7500 miles on it now and i dont notice it as much... Mayhap I just got used to it... I have found that it really only surges when i hit my brakes as soon as I push in the clutch... . If I let the rpm's drop below 1000 then hit the brakes it sits around 750... . One thing I have been a lil worried about is... If u shut the truck off with the clutch engaged. . will it hurt anything in the transmission?... I was driving an auto before I got this truck and I forgot to push in the clutch before shutting her off for the first 1000 miles or so... N e input would be helpful
