Anyone mix syn & Dino?

Anyone mix Dino and synthetic on a regular basis? Was wondering if it would defeat the purpose? I mean if synthetic was THAT GOOD wouldn't they tellus we could only run Synthetic

?

Valvoline offers a blend of synthetic and non synthetic in gear oil, so I'd venture to say it ain't gonna hurt anything... obviously the positive aspects of the synthetic oil will be "dilluted" a little ;)

I should have clarified. I meant engine oil. I was thinking about mixing. The only reason is my friend went to synthetic and started consuming. Went back to dino NO consumption. So I was thinking of mixing.

I knew you meant engine oil... I'm saying that Valvoline offers blends straight ouf of the bottle... so mixing dino and synthetic is no problem.

As an ex Castrol rep I can tell you with confidence that you can mix syn & dino with no problems. You decrease the value of syn & that is all. QS Pennz Castrol & Valv all offer a blended product. You can also mix viscosities without doing harm. To my knowledge the only things you should not mix are 2 stroke products as some will gell due to different bases.

Now the big question, why would you wqnt to mix products unless you are low & do not have any of your brand with you

Just think of the lawsuits if you mixed dino and syn and it ruined your engine. However, I agree with the below post. What would be the point?

A friend of mine switched to Rotella Synthetic and consumed 3 quarts in 4 thousand miles. I would like to move to synthetic but I aint gonna pay for it to drink it. But what is better

1. Dino oil no more tha 7500 miles?

2. Synthetic with 15000 miles?

The cost would be the same but even synthetic would break down if you really USE your truck.

I had always done 5,000 mile changes I would have contiued to excpet the new engine can have a 15,000 warratable oil change interval. So I looked at cost of 5,000 mile dino changes and 15,000 syn change I save about $40 dollars per 15k with Amsoil syn and feel like I have better protection. I will do that until 100,000 miles then look at a by pass filter and oil analysis for changes after that.
