Anybody have Carfax?

Hall of Famer...

i worked 1st shift for about 2 years [either 2300-0700 or 0000-0800] with various days off [mon/tues, tues/weds and fri/sat]] and now finally i got a 2nd shift job. . 0800-1600. while it is nice to sleep at night, i am not a morning person. . if i can get sun/mon or mon/tues off days on the 3rd shift [1500-2300 or 1600-0000] i will go there. might go back to nights for sun/mon or sat/sun off days but i don't hold near enough senority to get that. and the only reason i managed to get a mon/tues on dayshift was the old farts didn't bid the job on the posting board, so they have no excuse to complain about a junor emploiee holding that job [and i am the most junor on the senority list on dayshift]

No offense intended Carl. Perhaps a poor choice of terms?

Given the equipment they have to work with, it is amazing they have not already quit. Government agency with chronic funding issues. Coal fired computers, steam driven monitors and quill and ink printers. You know the deal. Of course some of the IT techs got their degree from Burger King university and have never actually seen a keyboard. Most speak English as a third language which makes talking to them a treat.

So, its nice to work nites when they don't bother us. Computer crashes and we just let it stay until the day shift comes in. Let them deal with it. :D

Steve:

I'm fortunate... we average replacing our system every 5 years... 'course, at the end of 5 years it is usually starting to have real issues. Our hospital averages 1. 8 million commands/second on our system, so it gets pounded pretty hard. If it crashes, and I don't have it up and running by 8:00am, then nobody is happy. I'm glad it doen't crash very much..... lol... all of our people speak English very well, but sometimes, I get the feeling they might not actually "understand" it... . lol
