Water pump is leaking at 123K. I got a NEW one, thermostate and 8 gal of coolant from NAPA. The water leak looks very rusty, might be a good idea to flush the system. Any direction before I start in the AM.

Thanks

We don't flush... . instead we test it annually and recharge it... . we do it to all our trucks. . and have had good luck with it... . The test and additive checks for PH balance and the additives add back the anti-rust and lubricant that the water pump needs... . its on the shelf next to where you just bought the coolant... .

Before it was harmful to flush a radiator and run the water on the ground they used to make a tee, you'd install in the heater hose line... turn on the engine and let it run and turn the garden hose to a trickle and come back in 20-30 min and all the bad stuff was on the ground... you left the tee in place, put a cap on it... . loosened the lower radiator hose and let all the water run out... and than recharge it with coolant and distilled water. .

Id say in kansas, you can still do what the poster said above. . if it is rusty then by all means back flush it.

When you drop the water out the bottom, you won't get all the water out but since you are replacing the water pump, you might. . just do the ph test when filling. . have a bottle of undiluted coolant to add if there is still too much water to coolant ratio

OK things went good. The oprange coolant was clean, I guess it looked rusty from the dirt it was washing off on the way down. Replace water pump and thermosat and every thing elese looked good. Thanks for the repleys guys. Truck is happy again...

OEM Coolant is only good for 60 months or 100K miles (whichever occurs first)... I am sure your beyond at least one of those. . should flush it.

Here is what I did. .

Seven years and 114673 miles and all original coolant, belts, hoses, lift pump, etc... But I am going to do it all this summer. Including getting injectors tested and setting lifters. I want it done before the snow flies here in MN.

im at 8 years and 96000 on orignal coolant and hoses,,,my work schedule and every day life are way to busy,, i need to slow down,,,but no small shop that i trust would take on the flush and radiator cleaning ,,so finally i think ill get to the flushing, water pump, hoses, radiator removal and cleaning, blow by relocation, and killer dowl pin repair before it gets to cold out,,hope to do it all this month october 2010 love al the info on this board,,,

Well, finally had to change mine in June with 138,000 miles on it. Water pump crapped out. Changed the water pump, coolant, thermostat, and fan belt all in one shot. I knew there had to be contamination in the system, but since I am in a campground I really didn't have the means to flush the system. Iinstead, I put a coolant filter on about a month later.

I flush mine every time. I also change out that nasty orange/ pink colored stuff and use with nothing but good ol' green Prestone, distilled/ deionized water and a dose of RMI-25. 232k on the '03 and the radiator still looks brand new inside ! :)

can some one tell me where i can find info on this coolant filter??? Ive never seen or heard of it,,,thanks in advance don
