I am thinking about running an HX-40 but I have some questions for some one who is or has had one on there truck... . The bolt pattern is different. What are you guys doing to mount it up to the exhaust? How much boost should I expect? The one I have has a non-waste gated exhaust housing, there is a 19 cast into it. My HG is stock right now... . How much should I expect my EGTs to drop (I currently have a 35 w/ non WG 18cm housing)? Truck has 4" exhaust to 6" stack, but I will be going to 4" downpipe/full 5" exhaust out the back... any help appreciated!

That will be pretty laggy. Mine doesn't even spool until 1600-1700 rpms with a 16 housing. The first one I had could spool past 50psi non-wg housing, but it didn't last very long. Had it rebuilt and set the wg at 40 no problems since, been 2 years now. EGTs can get up there, but pretty rare that I can get it up past 1400 without the H2O meth on. Definetely well past its limits with my setup, but none the less a good charger if you keep the boost at 40 or below.

It sounds like you have an HX50 actually, because an HX40 has the same bolt pattern on the turbine side as an HX35.

But I agree a 19cm housing on a 40 would be way laggy, you would need atleast 400 HP to spool it up anyway. Most run the 16 CM wastegated housing with the 40.

As Forrest said not all HX40 tubine housings have the same "bolt pattern" as the HX35 turbine housings.

I can hit 45# with mine. Don't do very often though. One thing you'll see is, that the cruising EGTs may be a bit higher, at least compared to a stock HX-35. A 19 will make it a serious lag pig. I finally have enough fuel to light mine up the way I want it to.

Was hitting up to 1400*. Just did the timing last night, so really haven't played around yet to see what my new numbers will be.

The truck gets plenty of fuel and boost now, I'm just looking to lower my EGTs. I have a buddy that's interested in buying it maybe I'll just sell it to him. I can hit 45#s with the midified HX35 that's on it now, but my EGTs can REALLY get up there. I did not build the truck I was told it has custom injectors (supposed to out flow 370s), custom plate, 191s, cranked GS. Smokes a LOT :)

Ive never heard of an HX40 with a 19cm housing. Do you have any pics of this turbo or does it have a tag on it that has any numbers. It maybe a HX50 if it has a different bolt pattern you will have to make an adapter. Oh and I will try to get the rest of the stuff shipped out his week.

This is old news on an even older turbo :)

16cm and 18cm are not the only two exhaust housings available for HX40's.

In the T4 flange there are other exhaust housings. 17cm and 19cm are the only two that come to mind but there may be others.

Well it sounds like it will be quite a hassle to get this to work you would probably be better off to sell it and put the money towards a good turbo, also I dont think it would be a good idea to run an HX40 without a wastegate.

I've seen hx-40's grenade while drag racing with boost over 46 lbs because it can cause the nut too loosen and then snap the shaft. Mostly because of surging. I just put one on my truck but went the extra mile to have a custom nut made and then my shop drilled and pinned the nut just like they do to big rigs and pulling tractors. That baby ain't going no where.

Also you have the new super 40's that have a different compressor and turbine wheel. There suppose to be better but you can always get a super 40 comp housing and wheel for a regular 40

Thanks for all the info... I am going to sell it and just keep what I have. Like I said before, the previous owner did a good job of setting up the truck, I just had the 40 already and thought I might drop a few EGTs by puttinit on. Too much hassle for me.
