As my signature shows, my current truck is an auto with DTT enhancments.

The truck I am buying is equiped with a G56 6spd. The truck is a new 2007 5. 9 4x4.

Is anyone having any gripes or praise for this trans???

we love ours ...

three good freinds have nv-5600s and all are impressed at how "user friendly" the g56 is ... .

when the wife drives you can't even tell she's shifting ... she's smoother than an auto

Overall, I agree... . It is very user friendly. Fighting my '07 into reverse was interesting for the first few weeks before it loosened up however.

My '06 G56 has 75k on it and I really like how well it shifts. You should do a quick search to find out if the one you are looking at is the new version with taller ratios. That would be the ideal one to have, OD is taller, which is something the original version should could use. I think the early one starts with an AD code and the new one an AE code.

I have 20K HAPPY rowing miles on my G56, no complaints, it's a good transmission to say the least, personally I think it's a GREAT transmission.

As was mentioned ^^^You might get the newer one with the taller gears, which I understand is a + for fuel mileage. I have no complaints with respect to fuel mileage, it's a truck, and I use it like a truck, taller tires gets you in the sweet spot as far as rpm's. Reverse was also tight on mine in the beginning, after about 1K it loosened up. I changed out the fluid to Amsoil ATF at about 5K, that made it much better too.

You will be pleased with your new truck, enjoy it!!! I love mine.

Same Here. No problems at 34k. Wife wasn't strong enough in the beginning to hit reverse. She had to use two hands too move into reverse. I never had a problem. It's still not as easy as my Jeep going into reverse. She no longer has a problem.

G-56

I'm very pleased with my G-56. It shifts easier than two 5600's I'd tried in the past. As mentioned in a prior post,if you crawl under the truck and spot an "AE" preceeding the numerals on the stock #,jump on it. I wish I had the slightly taller gears. :)

Are you doing alot of towing? If so, the G-56 is a great transmission. But, if you plan to heavily mod and drag the truck, then you are better with the auto (yes, you'll be modding that 48RE to handle the power). There is no comparison at the tracks, the autos are just faster than the manuals.

That is why I am going to the G56 is for towing. I retired this year and hope to travel more with the wife and our 28ft trailer.

The AUTO was ... ok... but I didn't like the huge gap between third and OD.

I also want gear selection that is between second and third on the automatic. The G56 seems to be able to fill the bill.

Thanks for your comments. Chris

Dont know if theyve improved the dual mass flywheel or not, but you will have to replace it sooner or later. Mine went out at 93,000. Couple of my haulin buddies lost theirs in the 60,000-70,000 mile range. Other than that its a great transmission.
