Hi, all-

I'll be taking the truck in soon for replacement of the door seals before the 36k warranty runs out. I'm thinking of getting them to flash it so I can have the fast idle option.

My concern is this: the truck runs GREAT, it has never been in for service since day one, except for wanting the fast idle I wouldn't change a thing. Are there any potential downside to an update? This is an October 04 build, never been updated.

I ask because I had a 6 liter Ford that I HATED after it got flashed. I got rid of the truck because of it. If there's any chance of a negative outcome, then I'm going to put a lock on the port before I go to the dealer!

Thanks,

Gary

Your truck does not need any "flash" for the fast idle option. It only needs to be enabled with their scan tool. The software is already there. :)

Fast Idle mode... didn't know that we had it. Do they all have to be "Enabled" to do so or when I get back to the states should I just try it to see if I have it. Does it work through your cruise control like most other "High Idle" vehicles? Did they make this feature available for PTO operations or just for those times you may need to idle your vehicle for an extended period? The more I think about it the more I love my truck! :-laf

All automatic-equipped trucks from 04. 5 to current should already have the software. Early 04 trucks may need a flash. I was one of the first to get the flash and have the feature enabled. That was in Feb 04.

Yes, it works through the cruise buttons. Here's how it works:

1. Start with the engine idling, in P or N, vehicle speed 0, and your foot OFF the brake or accelerator.

2. Turn on the cruise control and hit "Set". The engine will run up to 1100 RPM.

3. Use the "Accel" and "Decel" buttons to vary the speed between 1100 and 1500 RPM. It is infinitely variable between those two limits. There are no discreet steps.

4. Cancel by depressing the brake pedal, moving the gear selector, or turning off the cruise. On edit: You can hit the "Cancel" button too.

Give it a try. If it doesn't work, ask the dealer to enable it.
