Looking for what exhaust to use on my new truck. I hear the magnaflow is too quiet. If anyone has any sound clips for a 12v with exhaust, please post a link so i can better decide!

thanks

I've been considering the same thing... I see Geno's has a straight pipe adapter for $65 that looks pretty good, but I share the concern about it being too loud.

Also, with the wastegate disconnected, is there enough backpressure to keep the turbo from overspooling?

go for it! i straight piped mine and never gona have a muffler again. it has a wicked awsome drone at about 2,800rpm. everyone will look at your truck when you go by them. oh and the turbo sounds alot better also!

you don't need the backpressure of a muffler... especially with 3 or 4" pipe

the only thing that would cause overboosting of the turbo is if you've got the wastegate blocked off and a lot of fuel running through it. if all you've got is that plate and you're not overboosting right now, you'll be fine with straight pipe.

I striaghtpiped mine and it sounds cool but I have a drone between 1900 and 2200 RPMs that is kind of annoying. Definetly do it then figure something out to cure the drone. It sounds really good.

I ended up with a straight pipe in a roundabout way. I started two years ago with eliminating the muffler. That worked well until a few months ago when I went to the dyno. I noticed a small cloud of smoke popping out from under the hood during a run. When I got home, I discovered the cat. conv. was torn loose from the downpipe. Instead of investing time and expense for repairs, I removed the cat. conv. and bought a piece of 3"pipe. The pipe fit right in place and sounds good! I get a little noise during WOT, but that's life, right :D I have not done any towing like this, so the drone may rear it's ugly head, but until then, I love it!

Forrest,

That's what makes me nervous... The #12 plate in my AFC required disconnecting the wastegate. Anyone ever try running a #12 with the wastegate connected? Wonder if the turbo could keep up... ?

i run a 0 plate, 4k, 370's, straight 4" and what not on the stock turbo. she did eat four of them, and a 40, but overall as long as you drove like a moderately sane person they held up better than the 40 did. dunno if that helps ya at all, but that is what was ran on the truck i have. i run a usb1 on the truck now though.

Thanks for the info... does anyone anyone have any sound clips or video clips with sound of a staightpiped or any other 12v??

If I knew how to make one I could give you a sample of a 96 without any pipe :D

I will be pipeless untell Monday afternoon when Rip Rook (Source Automotive) will be putting a system on the FrankenDiesel.

You can use a digital camera and take a video/sound shot if you have one... or hook a microphone up to your computer... works best with a laptop, unless you can pull the truck in the computer room lol jk

im picking up my truck in eugene or... how far are you from there?

I'm about 100 miles North up I5 from Eugene.

I don't think the boss would like me parking in the office so it's probably better to try using the camera. I will give it a shot and see what happens.

I have a 4" exhaust with a very small muffler. It should been left out. It really only drones at idle 850rpm. When cruising just below 65 mph it is relatively quiet.

One question about the magna flow muffler. Does it have to much back pressure to decrease performance?
