Easiest way to check the bar is to crawl under your truck and have someone slightly turn the wheels back and forth. If you see any movement in the drivers side ball joint end of the bar it's shot. A hand sledge is the only special tool needed for replacement.
thanks illflem. i saw your post when i did a search. i wish i had access to your library of answers. i have had my front end aligned but i still have a pull. i have rotated the tires. the tires are michelin and i don't want them ruined. i will try a new track bar if needed. thanks.
Scott, my Napa receipt says 272-4229 for the p/n, $179. They call it a NCP trac bar (no K) if you want to try a search. Replacing the bar and steering stabilizer totally eliminated my truck's drifting and tire wear.
