Any tricks to re-installing a nv5600???

I am in the middle of clutch change...



Just wondered if anyone had any hints on getting the trans back into its home?

are you having issues getting it back in? or is this a generalized question to see if there are any easier ways to do this?

if so just make sure your splines on the clutch and pressure plate are lined up properly and slide the transmission home. with a good bit of wiggling it will pop into place the tighten her down.

Make sure it is seated before you tighten the mouting bolts. I have used long stud to guide it into position you can get longer bolts and get them started then get back in the back and lift up and down and wiggle it around until it goes in. Also I have done it using a transmission jack rented from a local tool rental. You might want to find a garage with A/C the next week to work in.

I have not changed one in a Dodge truck yet but an old trick I use is to get it close and hook up the clutch linkage, or lines and then have someone push the clutch in while you are wiggling/pushing on trans that last inch or so. Even though you line up the clutch with a guide tool it can get "pushed" down if you let the weight of the trans rest on the clutch disc before it is located on the pilot bearing. It doesn't want to go in if this happens so by pushing the clutch pedal in it "frees up" the clutch disc to allow the trans to slide on in. You can also make sure its in gear and turn the output back and forth in order to align up the splines.

We finally got it in. Next time should go fairly fast since this was my first time.



We got the splines lined up and slowly let the bolts bring it home (turning them in a staggered pattern).

so every thing worked out well? next time i don't recommend letting the bolts do the work you can not feel if it is seated properly.

We had that base covered.

I stuck a mechanics mirror up inside and with a flashlight I could see that the splines were lined up and infact engaged.



I wouldnt have just bolted it in if I didnt know it wasnt lined up

The splines lining up is not as big as not having the pilot lined up. But like they said it is fun. How does it drive?? There is a pull friday night up this way. If I get the drive shaft in and my front end checks out. I should be there.

You could have drove out here and done it in my air cinditioned garage with my new lift.
