I heard that within the next 2 or 3 years, Dodge will not have the CTD anymore. It will have the Mercedies diesel. Ummmmm. . Not likeing that. I think that the CTD is the only reason Dodge sells trucks. This could put Ford in the lead. Any truth to this rumor?????

I heard that since Ford is the number 1 selling truck, DC wants to start putting the 6. 0 PSD in the Dodges and give Cummins to Ford. :-laf

If DC ever drops the Cummins, I bet Ford already has a first refusal in place with Cummins. Only makes sense, its good business to be ready.

ford's got ties with navistar... i don't think they will be changing brands any time soon... that new ford cab over boxtruck that just came out has that V6 vt275'ish/4. 5l psd...

I wouldnt surprise me if Ford picked up the option to put cummins in their trucks. I am fairly positive that DC will drop cummins like a bad habit when the contract is up in 2007, in an attempt to save money. If Ford is smart, they will still offer the 6. 0 motor at that time, but they will also offer the cummins as another diesel option... Just something Im thinking they should do. . and then they'd have the market cornered. Hell, Id buy a Ford in a heartbeat, if I could get a cummins in it.

My thought?

Here is my thought on the subject, Ford owns Cummins, right! So I would think that is Ford can my money off of Dodge by selling motors to them. So wouldn't it be good business sence to have Dodge sell a product for Ford. Because if Dodge sells cummins powered trucks they are actually making Ford money? And would Ford sales go up that much because they are offered with a CTD, I don't think so. And my other thought is cummins has been good for Dodge, so one would think that if they come out with a new Merc engine dodge is going to make sure that it is up to par,or better than the CTD.

Amen to that! I myself would rather have the Cummins in a Ford. My 97 Ford Crewcab Powerstroke was one fine riding truck! I would mostlikely still own it if it had a CTD!

Time will tell and yes, we have landed on the moon :-laf

There are guys over at TDS that swear Ford will be changing over to the 6. 4L TT PSD in early 2006 as per navistar engineers. I can't see them going through all the trouble to introduce a new motor if there was ANY speculation that Cummins would be up for grabs in 2 years. I'd bet Nissan would get the contract if ever given the chance. .

Ford at one point owned ten percent of Cummins along with Kubota and another comapan and induvidual to make up I believe 40% of company stock. This was in the 90's since then I believe ford has sold ther shares. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Cummins initialy gave Ford, Kubota, and the individual a 25% premiumn to avoid the possibility of a hostile takeover. In return Ford gave cummins what seems to be essentially a 6 year non - compete clause. Even if Ford does still own 10% of cummins they can have there $50 or less after you figure in actual profits on a cummins engine when I purchase a Dodge Cummins better than giving them a 100% of the profit on a superduty. Take Care all

Ford owns no part of Cummins and correct me if I'm wrong (but I am sure I'm right) Dodges contract with Cummins doesnt expire until 2010 thus all rumors the original poster heard are a wash... tell your friends

you are correct on the 6. 4L we have them testing them around town now. They use a common rail fuel system and will be introduced in the 2007 models. Dodge has cummins under contract till 2010.

OK now, we've all heard that one before. But what's not so funny is DC does own "Mercedes" and "Detroit Diesel". So what does that mean? Damned if I know, hopefully nothing.
