Mercedes and Detroit build some of the best engines in the world, BUT, none of them that I am aware of are sized right AND EPA certified for use in a light duty pickup. The Merc's and Detroits used by Freightliner and Sterling would crush the front end of a one ton. Be ready for the '07 Dodge Commercial line, they will have the Merc as an option alongside the larger bore Cummins, as well as a gas option. And for the last freakin' time- please tell all the "stupid" people to stop saying that Ford owns Cummins, etc. , etc. , etc. Instead of repeating what some high school dropout told you, do some research for yourself. It's all public record. Ford owned some stock as an investment, they sold it, they made money. That's what companies do with their money- they invest it to make more. Business 101. Dodge renewed thier contract till 2010 with Cummins. Far enough out for now considering the "daily" changes regarding diesel emissions. Ford has indeed invested millions on their power strokes, and yet, you can still buy an ISB in your new F650/750 (at least the last time I checked). Ford BELIEVES in their power stroke (don't really know why), and they like it! International LOVES that engine and it does VERY, VERY well for them. No more Ford owns anything talk- it gives me gas!

I don't see any reason that Ford would not use the CTD, after all "Ford owns Cummins". :-laf

Just to set the record straight for any new members or Ford lurkers here, my previous included "Ford owns Cummins" in quotes becasue I new that it was a myth and was attempting to inject some humor here. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. :-laf

Why are we stil posting stuff about the Ford-Cummins controversy? It has been cleared up time and time again just to be re-hashed once more. Everyone needs to understand that at one time alot of companies have had ties to Cummins. Back in the 70's White had serious ties to Cummins, and in the 80's Tennaco/J. I. CaseIH also under went a joint business venture to procuce the 3. 9 5. 9 8. 3 and N-14 under the Consolidated Diesel name for the CaseIH and Case brands of equipment. Ford never owned a controlling share of Cummins, just a small percentage of the stock. And lets say they did own part of Cummins, when does it ever make any sense to sell to a serious competitor? It never does. Ford has put Cummins engines in some of their medium trucks, but now they use Cat, so does that mean that they own Cat? Just wait, I'm sure that will be the next one out of the rumor mill on TDS! :-laf
