Any V-series Detroit mechanics ?

Our VFD has had another silver-92 run hot.



I need to know the time and labor cost for replacing the heads on a 6-v92. It is in an 85 Seagrave.

You say it's running hot? Did check the heat exchanger core? Is it intercooled or after cooled, is air cooler above or below the blower? The air cooler core can become fouled if you have a airsep system that will pull oil into the system and bake it on the airt cooler core. Check the bypass valves for the blower. Check the screw for line? For head replacement it depends on interferences and how many people. If both sides of engine are easy to access then it could be done in about 4hrs otherwise look at 6-8hrs pending difficulties. Figure $60-80hr minimum depending on facility.
