Want to kick up my idle - say 1200-1300 so the beast won't get the carbon buildup problem. I currently use a stick that I place between the seat and the go pedal - BUT - after a few minutes the Darn Thing repositions itself and the idle goes back down. Anybody have a solution????

I use an idle stop solenoid from an early 80's GM car along with a homemade braket that bolts to the TPS horn. I trimmed the factory TPS cover to fit nicely. Almost looks factory.

I, like Straight6Jeff, used the idle selonoid. I've got mine set up when the switch is on, idle comes up to about 1300. I've even used it in the field pulling a trailer in low range. keeps the truck steady and don't have to worry about working the throttle. i had some pics somewhere. will see if i can dig them up and post them.

Try psdieselproducts On the main page they sell a 24V High-idler. Uses a box with a knob to twist for idle adjustment.

Issue 38, pg 18 had a small write-up on it under member2member.

Hope this helps

I bought one and love it. Hooks on securely and fine tunes with the knob. Works on my 12 and 24 valve!

Same as Wade, got one from Geno's and it works great.

I pm'ed you guys too. I want to add this high idle this weekend, but my Chiltons manual leaves a lot to be desired. Can you guys explain a bit more on how you mounted yours? And where is the TPS located? Would it be possibile to use the APPS to keep it all in the cab? Pictures would be great, but if you don't have them, you don't need to go out in this cold weather and take some!

Thanks for the help,

Billy Diesel, got your PM and sent you one back. Here is a pic that i took back in Sept 2001 after I installed my high idle. I'll be glad to take some more pics if needed.

Does the solonoid simply extend and push on the TPS arm for the throttle to some adjusted amount? I'll assume that TPS arm is controlled by a cable coming from the pedal. Looks too simple. I like it. :)

Ncostello, you are correct. When power is applied, it extends and pushes on the tps arm. It really was simple to hook up. I'll take a few more pics tomorrow.

I don't know if he still makes it but I have a Bowers FIK fast idle kit that went for $35 when he sent me mine (2 years ago). His email was -- email address removed --

I don't have any other contact info but a search on TDR might bring up a thread about it.

It came with solinoid, bracket, wiring and instructions. Fit inside the tps cover without modification.

I had a review on my old website but it seems to be having problems. The photos still work.

BOWERS FIK

Guess it's time to pull that site into the old website garage. .

Would be nice to order that kit.

Looks Familiar

As I look at mongoose's pic ... . that looks so much like the "throttle deceleration solenoid" that came on the 6 pack/barrel AAR Cuda's and TA Challengers. When you had the 6 pack open and putting the hammer to it, the piston extended when you went to leave off the throttle so as to give the fuel system a chance to "catch up". Does this work on the same principle?

This should be a full on or off. Just to keep the throttle arm in a stationary position for high idle if thats what you were asking.

Same here! No response.

Mine came from an old GM carb. I think it was used if the A/C was on then it held the idle up. Not sure about that though. Mine does not have enough "umph" to push the TPS open, but a little blip of the throttle with the switch on and it will hold it all day long.
