Whats involved with this? I was always under the impression that there was no emissions test, but with the MANY changes in the past year or two, I don't know anymore. #ad

If not, do they give a "visual test" for smoke? Do they "pull a sample" to see if the fuel is red? #ad

Any advice is appreciated. TIA

Don't know about NJ but in California they will pull fuel from your tank--red=$$$. Currently all Fleet operations are required to do an opacity (smoke) check yearly with a approved meter on every truck over 8600 gvw and more than 4 years old. Don't worry it's coming to your home town soon.

Am pretty sure our trucks are exempt from emissions, Our shop got a letter saying that anything over 18,000 pounds is tested. On a side note my buddy owns a bus company and the state comes to them to test all there buses twice a year. He said they will take a bus with 200k on it and hold it wide open for 15 seconds to check for smoke... JB

If the state blows one of these buses up during testing, will they pay to fix it?

I went through inspection at Paramus NJ in April. No emissions (diesels are exempt as long as your registration is 10,000 pounds or less). There is a stiffer brake test now, but my 96 3500 Club 4x4 aced that with no sweat. It was actually kinda funny to watch the looks I got from the other people in the waiting area as they waited for their gasoline-powered cars and the extended emissions test, while the insoector waved me over after about 2 minutes of brake tests, slapped a 2 year sticker in the windshield, and said "See ya"

One thing that is new and important: you get a printout that says you passed and what test were run - you will need that sheet in your files in case you ever have to take care of a repair that would affect inspection otherwise (eg, a broken windshield). That is your proof on passed inspection if you need a replacement sticker for any reason.

I went thru the station in So. Brunswick in May. Went right thru. No check of the emissions or fuel. Even with a bunch of trainees from Parsons going over everthing, it still only took 10 minutes.

Thanks for the replys all.
Blue knight, you a member of the MC club by that name? I used to work with a bunch of guys that went to Sturgis, Daytona etc. etc. every year. I finally got a bike, it's a honda #ad
