Mine seems to have a slow drip from the pivot arm. I only have 48,000 on the truck seems silly to have to replace a 450. 00 part. Anybody know if you can just replace the lower seal. Dealer calls for a full replacment.

had steering box replaced last week at 18,000. had to much play. It went in yesterda because it was leaking. Had a few small drips. Tech thinks it is the lines, and has them on order.

Mine was leaking also. Upon inspection of the fluid it was burnt black. I have no idea what happened to cause it. The truck only had 52,000 miles.

Mine is wet :{ I think mine might be from when they did they TSB for the ps hose. Thay might not have it tight. I have no drips on the floor in the garage or at work

When mine leaked there was only a Mopar part number for the pump as an assembly. We could not even order the resevoir seperately! On my 99 the same seal you described was leaking and I had a mechanic at the shop where I worked replaced just the seal. He removed it and then took it to the parts store to match it up. It worked great but I'm not sure how much different the newer setup is. I would think it should still be possible.

I wiped mine off and it hasnt dripped yet so it must be slow. I did have the axel seal and the front pinion seal done. I guess I will have to come up with the cash to have mine fixed. I am going to try to keep the old one and see if I can replace the seal. I then would have a spare.

If you suspect a leak, check the fluid level often. Mine leaked at the seal where the steering shaft came out of the steering box. But the kicker is, it would only leak under operating pressure so it did not show up on the shop floor where I park it. I found out when I was moving a trailer on my driveway and noticed drips of red fluid. The reservour was quite low by the time I noticed it. Fortnately, this occured within a month of purchase and the dealer replaced the whole steering box. They actually had one in stock which made me believe they had seen this before.

I think mine is leaking a bit, I've topped it off twice with only 22K. I'm hopping that the dealer didn't fill it up after the hose/vibration TSB was done.

They replaced my power steering pump last week at 12k miles. Is that the same thing? I had a few leaks on the floor. Larv

My previous post was incorrect! After calling the dlr today I was told it was indeed the steering box that was replaced and now some alignment needs to be done to bring the steering wheel back to level. Larv

Mine was loose from the day I got it and started leaking at about 20K.

The replacement seems to be much tighter and hasn't leaked a drop.

Hmmm... maybe I should go out and check on it.

My 2004. 5 3500 steering gearbox is also leaking. :( Noticed it during a routine oil change. Only 4600 miles on truck! Oh well, they ordered a new steering box and should be fixed within the next week. Hope this doesn't turn out to be a problem with these trucks. No other problems as of yet. Take care everyone.

I need to check mine again too. It has been making an unusual noise since I topped it off for the second time.

Mine has been leaking a while... I have 60K now and its leaking real good. Went to the5***** dealer today and asked them if there was a problem with the steering pumps and they said no. Now they tell me they are on nationwide back order. HUMMMMM... if there is no problem they why are they on NATION WIDE back order. DUHHH. You think there is a problem... no doubt. They will try to say it's the 37" tires I am sure... and the rear pinion is leaking too... they admitted there is a problem with the pinion. Three in one day... at least 5 per week... now that's a problem.

I'm sure part of the problem on the pump is you can't order seperate pieces, the only part number is the pump and resevoir as an assembly. Seems like it would be easier to just replace the part that is bad instead of the entire assembly!

I'm taking mine in today for loss of PS fluid. Must have started about 2 weeks ago - started noticing handling issues about then. Finally got bad enough the other day that i looked at the control arms and noticed PS fluid all over. Filled up with fluid and it was gone within 50 miles. WHats the waranty coverage on PS pumps/hose? 36K??

Twice

My truck has 40,000 and the steering box has been replaced twice for the same problem. Take this advice - dump a little stop leak (seal conditioner) in it as preventative and save yourself some worry. I think they are replacing a bad part with a bad part. Let's see what steering box #3 will do... .
