2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission anybody ever had this problem?

I was driving down the road the other night and my gauge lights went off i still had headlites. then tonight i was pulling my trailer and the same thing happened but i just had clearance lights on and lights was not working on the trailer. after about 30 secs they came back on again. What im asking is if there is something that starts going out to cause this or i just have a short or possibly a ground issue? thank you

On most cars, if the instrument lights go out so do the tail lights, they are on the same fuse. Yours apparantly has a reset type fuse. I believe you should be looking for a shorted wire in the tail or instrument lights.

That happend in my 97, it was the headlight switch



on certain trucks (I beleive 96 duallies) there was a recall Because the switch overheats



You get a new switch and a relay.



I was looking for the TSB number but couldnt find it, maybe someone else will know

Mine did that, the very first night I had it. The fuse socket for that particular fuse was a bit loose and by jiggling (tech. term) you could get it back to go on and off. Ended up making a side of the road fix with an old plastic business card and shimmed it up. Worked good. This thread just reminded me that I did that, and it has never given me grief since, and that was 20k ago. Just a thought.

I heard about the hot headlight switches and mine (01) does get hot so I have the A/C duct for the left side goes behind that switch... I reamed a small hole so that cool air from the A/C will blow on the switch... so far it seems to work as it is 7. 5 years old now and no problems.

well i will check the fuse socket seems like a good place considering I ran one of wires from my gauges down there but cant remember which one thank you

I had a trailer wiring connector do that one time, it would dim out the running lights and the dash lights, but wouldn't blow the fuse. The headlights weren't affected. You might check for corrosion or a rubbed through wire on the back of the truck. -Nicholas

I checked the fuse today and the 15amp parklight fuse was melted down to nothing and the light would not work at all so I managed to pull it with needlenose and discovered that the fuse panel was also melted a little, but i dont know where to start on finding a short.
