2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Anybody gotten stealer to replace steering wheel leather?

took mine in to dealer today at 35,990 miles. The leather wheel cover is badly worn on top of the wheel, and down at about '4 o'clock'. It is actually pealing away in spots. If the fella doesn't want to replace it under warranty, who should I speak with? The General Manager? Man I hate going to these people

We got a whole new wheel on the durango we used to own when we took it in for the exact same issue at about 35k.



Try a different dealer is all I can offer...

The dealer replaced mine no questions asked at 35,920 miles. I figured there would be a big fuss since it was just barely starting to show signs of wear but they surprised me and said ok.

Mine waited till after warranty to fall apart. Wish I had a plain old plastic wheel. The leather also gets a sticky feeling when you dont clean and treat it enough. Has anyone tried Genos cover?

I have the Genos Cover, and it seems to be holding up quite well! I would recommend it, but it only covers the main round piece on the wheel, which is not noticeable, when you pull down the stitching. I will get some pics on here when I get a chance.

Pep Boys has what looks like the same cover as Genos for about $15. I put one on my other truck and it comes out very nice and the average guy wouldnt even notice it was a cover.

I was coming home from the mountains one day, noticed I had just shy of 36K miles on my last ram. I stopped by the dealer (its on the way home from the mountains), showed them the wheel, and the mileage. "No Problem Will, we will order you a new one and call you when it gets in, don't worry about the miles, you reported it while you still are under the bumper to bumper warrantee.

Ditto on what Deezul1 said about Pep Boys. They have the leather cover for 15 bucks and it looks OEM after install. I put a black one on my truck and it is a quality unit, looks great. If you get your original Steering wheel replaced under warranty you might want to use this cover to make it last (much cheaper that way).

My Dealer replaced my wheel at 30,000 for the same reason, leather and padding was shot all the way around. After some haggling with DC to get the wheel covered they finialy agreed to replace it, the service manager James (a friend )advised my wife when she picked up my truck to either get me, ( the Neanderthal ), as James feels the need to call me some drivers gloves or some hand lotion because the new wheel would not hold up to my hands for long. She bought me a rubber Knobby/leather wheel skin from Auto Zone instead. I've sense gone thru 2 or 3 of them but at 10 bucks and no hassel to change you cant beat them, and the wheel still looks brand new under the cover. When I change the covers out I always feed the leather with Lexol leather conditioner and then reistall the new cover.

Mine was replaced under warranty with 35. 5K on the clock. The shiny stuff was flaking off the upper half of the steering wheel. I'm guessing it was due to diesel fuel residue on my hands after a fill up. I've been trying to be more careful about not getting any fuel on my hands during a fill up. Try using one of those paper towels you find next to the pumps between your hand and the fuel nozzle.
