I posted in the 2nd gen forum couple weeks ago about fuel filter changes on an 02. I have an 06 and the procedure is EASY. I asked them if there were any differences. SOme said that it was just as simple, same procedure. Others stated that they had lots of problems getting it restarted. I was going to change the Fuel filter in the 02 tomorrow and just wanted to post it here and see if there was anything anyone could add to hel me. Thank! Oo.

Hello ropertteacher

I change the fuel filter on the 99 like this I have a gauge for the fuel so I know that my lift pump works. it has been said that if the lift pump has failed the engine will not start not sure if that is true or not so any way what i do is change the filter after I am done I bump the starter the lift pump runs for 25 seconds I let what ever air bleed out the water drain line, I close the water drain before the lift pump stops then I bump the starter again and bleed any remaining air out of the line going INTO the VP44 thru the banjo fitting going into the VP44 once again closing or securing the banjo fitting before the lift pump stops I have never had any problems starting my truck using this method. this is just my way I do it good luck.

Anything with a new style fuel filter housing ie 00-07 are pretty easy to restart as long as you dont splash all of the existing fuel out of the housing.

Remove the filter slowly and you should be good to go.

move yellow lever, collect draining fuel, in the mean time unscrew cap, pull cap and filter out, change gasket, change filter, screw back on. Close yellow lever, bump the key to start the truck but don't start. let truck sit for 20 sec or so with key left on, repeat once or twice. Start truck. clean up, have a nice day. Way to easy.

Basically the injectors self prime them selves, way to easy compared to older diesels trucks and cars.
