Who here is a police officer??

I just got a 4802 Denon reciever. Wow theres so much new stuff. Learning how to run this thing looks like it may take awhile. Sounds great though.

I had an AVR-5700 once upon a time. . I sold it for $1750. Retail was $2800. That thing sounded BEYOND incredible. I wish everyone in their lifetime had a chance to hear something like that receiver connected to two Definitive Technology BP2000 speakers (flagship models at the time). I still have the speakers and the DVD-5000 flagship DVD player, but no receiver!

I am using a 15W bookshelf JVC to push my huge DefTech speakers. . and it STILL sounds very good.

Denon is the best receiver I have listened to. They may not match up feature-for feature in a price range (lower power, etc), but nothing sounds better or has better quality in that range.

I have the 3802. Its a very nice piece of equipment. I have a carver 380wX2 power amp for my "music" I use the Denon for the home theatre. I like the denon, suits me just fine. I could justify the extra cash for the larger model. Couple that with my velodyne sub and it makes for some interesting movie scenes!

Last year I got a pair of Definative 2002 TL speakers. My ol reciver made 10 years. Only problem the reciever was way out dated for the def tech speakers.

JeffH- I also have the 4802 and like it alot. Did you get the touch screen controller. I like it because you can control any thing with a remote. I like the light dimmer feature. What is all of this power going through.

I'm running all Def Tech. BP-30 as front left/right, CLR-2500 center, BPVX as middle left/right, and BPVX as rear left/right, and then another pair of BPVX for stereo center. It will make your ears bleed.

Yeah, I have to say tha the Def Techs are about the best overall i have heard for the money. When i listened to them, other speakers that came close in sound were WAY more expensive.

Mine are the BP2000s- an older model that sounds fantastic. i bought them in 1998. I now have the matching center channel (CLR 2K I think). Still have the DVD5000. AWESOME!

Now to get the $$ for a receiver... .

BTW-- You would be amazed how good the speakers sound with only 15W behind them. With the powered subs, the juice goes a long way.

Yep got the touch screen controller. That little bugger is worth 800 bucks. Some to take care of.

Just hooked up the Playstaion using that optical digital cable. Sounds so unbelievable. Gonna get some more wire and bass cable and one more optical cable later this week.

Waiting patienly for those HD tvs to come down on there prices.

Yeah, I went ahead and splurged on the DVD-5K because I KNEW that DVD was here to stay.

HDTV will be here to stay as well, but it's more of a nicety than anything. ONce the infrastructure is in place, more people will buy it and the price will come down. I like HDTV, but it's just not worth the price differential right now, and most can't justify the added cost just yet. I am holding out for a 16:9.

A buddy of mine bought the BP3000TLs right when they came out. In fact, I got such a good deal on my 2000s because the 3Ks were just released, and mine were no longer the flagship. I paid 2 grand for mine. My buddy paid 4500 for his 3Ks.

They sound almost the same, only he paid over twice as much as I did! I prefer the sound of the 2000s-- it seems more natural in the bass. 15s seem to be more musical than 18s.

AFAIK, the only difference between the TL series, and the earlier ones (like mine) is the subwoofer configuration. My sub amps are only 300W, while the 2000TL are 500W I think. the TLs are also ported-- mine are sealed.

I bought my speakers because I had the money, I KNEW I would never be able to afford them in the future, and it was a once-in-a-lifetime purchase. I also didn't feel they would be obsolete any time soon. Improvements will come, true, but my speaker will always sound good to my ears.

I tell people to buy what THEIR ears like. To my ears, the Def Techs are phenomenal, and a good value in their price class.

azcummins I cannot get to the Sysytem Setup Menu screen on the remote control. I'm doing what the instructions say to do. Just wonder if there is a trick?

i have a avr-5700 in my media room in the basement. i've delivered many denon recievers for work and i still have not gotten use to the denon touch screen remote. i've never had to use the touch screen remote other than to do a quick setup so if i used it more often, i guess i'd get use to it...

my other stuff. .

toshiba sd 9200 dvd

sony 61hs10 tv [oh i wish it was a 16:9 tv :( ]

b&w 604 s3 speakers mains

b&w lcr 600 center

b&w ds6 sides

b&w lm1 rears

home brew sub for now [had a nice 15" SD one but the power supply went south :(] <- next one will probably be a paradigm servo 15 [can maybe get it at dealer cost from a friend - my store doesn't sell it. ]

oh, and 400+ dvd's [man, it feels bad to see how much $$$ there is sitting on the shelves, but it is an investment, and if i sold it all, i will make back more than 50% of what i put into it so it's still better than tech stocks;)]
