Anybody Have Roof Mounted Air Horns?

I found some horns on eBay and I'm thinking about mounting them on the roof. I was wondering if anybody had pictures/suggestions about the exact location for mounting. I have a set for each truck. The old one gets 'em on the roof for sure, but I may end up mounting the 03's under the hood someplace. (has the side airbags and I don't want to interfere with those)

Also, if mounted on the roof, how necessary are caps to keep rain and junk out of them?

There is a certain uhh someone that Breaks stuff that was formerly a member that has his on the roof. They are Hadley's 28"? horns with covers and man they are L O U D! Gotta hand it to him for the air plumbing work and tank setup. Alltho I don't quite get the inquiry about the side air bags ? ?

I've seen them mounted on the roof before, I'm mounting mine under the hood. There's no way I'm drilling holes in the roof of $40K truck. Just my 2 cents.

I have the side-curtain airbag option on the 03. They are up between the roof and headliner near the windows. (I'm not sure how far inward they go in their folded state since I haven't pulled down the headliner yet)



I'm just worried that right after I install them, I will see a picture or have somebody point out "Well you really should've... . " I hate it when that happens.

I have roof mounted horns. Regretably I'm 2000 miles from my digital camera. I mounted the air tank on the frame under the passenger side and ran the air line under the side plastic and above the head liner to the valve. My valve is manual and is mounted to the horns. Making a template prior to drilling is mandatory. I mounted my horns slightly to the left of center on the roof with the bells between the second and third lights. That puts the pull chain for the valve above my right shoulder. If you want pictures PM me and I'll take some when I get a chance to get back to TX.

I'm sorry, but I have to agree with this guy! Hide 'em away on the cross member or something and make 'em stealth... there's room, so why put 'em up top?

My old truck is already pretty ugly so it's not an issue. I'm still on the fence about the new truck. I may end up hiding them under the hood of the 03.

I have a large rotating light in the center. (UGLY IS GOOD) Right next to THAT looks a bit goofy IMO. My valve (blow gun) won't be attached to the horns so there is some flexibility there. My horns may end up directly over the driver's seat with the valve control a bit closer to center.

I have 2 - 28" Hadley's mounted on the roof. Split apart just inside each marker light. Pull chain in right above my left shoulder. I consider them my "legal" rocket launcher's!! They move cars, SUV's, & low-riders easily out of the way... . I absolutelty love the way they look on my roof. It's a big decision sitting on the roof of a $40k truck with a cordless drill in one hand & Silicone sealer in the other. But, that was for me... not everybody. BTW... Aside from adding 2 more cylinders to our truck's, there's absolutely nothing we can do to to make them ugly. I think all builds Character.

Water wont hurt them. All thats in there is a spring and a flat copper disc (at least on Grovers). The semis dont seem to have a problem with them up there in the rain.

I got my single 5" slant cut stack on. Looks sort of ugly like the rest of the truck. Muffler came off in the proccess so it makes pretty nice music. I was shocked that a pair of 90* elbows, 3 band clamps and about a foot and a half of flex pipe was more than the stacks cost. (bought 2 on ebay but installed just the one for now-- Maybe the other will go on the new truck? )

I guess ugly is in the eye of the owner. My horns, now over 9 years old (they have been mounted on two trucks) are still shiny and and look GOOD!!! I also believe that having them out in the open and pointing directly at the SOB that is the target makes them louder. If they are beyond being presentable, but still work, I can understand hiding them, plus the it makes it more difficult to determine just who has the horns if a noise ordnance is being violated, but I'll display mine (thank you very much) and you can keep your opinion of U-G-L-Y to yourself.
