I was talking to someone out at the races and he was running his truck with no plate. He had a 95 with an HX40, built at, pluged waste gate, some of a gov spring kit (?) and no plate. The truck hauled but and smoked quiet a bit but not as bad as a white one w/ a bulged hood I saw a while back.

Stan Steel in Texas was running a 96 without a plate the last time I talked to him, but he could not keep a clutch alive. He was also seeing EGT's in the 1600 degree range.

Stan said that driving the truck was a lot of fun and the smoke cloud was impressive, but he did not recommend routinely driving without the plate on the street. He was also very tired of replacing clutches!

Okay, inquiring minds need to know what is controlling the fueling with no plate installed..... is it just the AFC? How much power does no plate add? hehe... lot cheaper than buying a new plate! :D

Matt

running no plate would seem to me that, the internal fuel rack linkage would be bottoming out and have nothing there to stop it at a desired RPM. Just seems like it would be hard on the pump.

Just my thoughts.

your right big yellow, havig no plate at all is a good way to blow the pump.

Even sliding a plate all the way forward can ruin a pump.

3/4 is the most I would even go on my rig.

I guess I won't try that trick.....

Normally, I like a lot of "rack movement", but I guess it's not good for our girls (our trucks, that is... . )..... :D :D

$2200 for a new P7100 is more than enough reason for me not to do that.

Matt - I will have to settle for excessive biological 'rack movement'.

P. S. This was meant as a tongue-in-cheek comment, and not meant in any way to degrade anyone on the basis of: (but not limited to... )sex, color, creed.

bad idea

Having no plate in the pump is not recommended for extended amounts of time. It is not healthy on barrels and plungers. You can crack barrels and plungers. This was learned from experience by D. Mitchell. A short amount of time, like truck pulls, might be all right. Don't hold me to that.

I'm not going to chance it... .

I like my P7100 just the way it is... . I'm assuming all of my plungers and barrels are in working order.

I'll buy a cam plate and keep it at that.

Matt - too much rack movement is bad
