Anybody know where the factory heated seats harness terminates? Any info would be appreciated. I have a 2004, I installed the Rostra seat heaters, now I would like to wire them in. In the fuse box there is a 20A fuse that is for factory heated seats and power mirrors, I would like to tap into that circuit for a clean installation.

What is the code system for the wire colors? I assume that RD is red, the only other question is where would the seat heater interface module be located?



Seems like I would want to locate the plug labeled C322 and tap into the red wire there, or maybe tap into it at S300 (termination point???)

The heated seat module is also known as the Seat

Heat Interface Module. The heated seat module (Fig.

3) is located under the drivers front seat cushion,

where it is secured to a mounting bracket. The

heated seat module has a single connector receptacle

that allows the module to be connected to all of the

required inputs and outputs through the seat wire

harness.

The heated seat module is an electronic microprocessor

controlled device designed and programmed to

use inputs from the battery, the two heated seat

switches and the two heated seat sensors to operate

and control the heated seat elements in both front

seats and the two heated seat indicator lamp Light-

Emitting Diodes (LEDs) in each heated seat switch.

The heated seat module is also programmed to perform

self-diagnosis of certain heated seat system

functions and provide feedback of that diagnosis

through the heated seat switch indicator lamps.

The heated seat module cannot be repaired. If the

heated seat module is damaged or faulty, the entire

module must be replaced.

If your truck didn't come equipped with heated seats it's highly unlikely that the heated seat module is there at all. I considered doing the same thing as you, but when I realized I'd have to splice directly into the IPM I changed my mind.

I don’t have the module, however I’m hoping that if I dig around under the carpet where the harness for the power seats and cigarette lighter comes up I’ll find it. If it does not exist, I just start digging until I find where the wire goes that leaves #48. I know that it goes to the power mirrors, it sure would be nice if it was easy to intercept, or better yet runs under the seat.



I’ll be sure to take some pictures and post some info if I am successful in coming up with a clean way to go about this.

Well, I got it figured out.



If you remove the drivers side kick panel / threshold you can easily get to the harness that goes into the drivers door. That pack has a red 18 gauge wire from fuse 48 (factory heated seats & power mirrors), and it has a 12 gauge pink/yellow wire that is hot in Run/Acc for the power windows. Should work out great... . I'll post some pictures when I'm done.

Rostra seat heater installation in a 2004 quad Cab SLT.



To install the heat elements I followed the instructions from Geno’s. It was fairly easy, but it does require removing the passenger seat. Having the passenger seat removed made it far easier to wrestle & install the elements than the driver’s seat. I had such a hard time getting the seat back upholstery J-hook back together on the driver’s side that I would say that it wouldn’t be a good idea for anyone with weak hands or arthritis to tackle it, you may be better off paying an upholstery shop.



Rostra has a nice website, if you loose your instructions like I did you can download a copy easily. I wanted to tap into the factory harness, the OEM seat heater circuit in a SLT is A930, it powers the mirrors and heated seats if your pickup came with them. I was able to tap into the wire pretty easily, A930 runs from the fuse box under the hood (fuse 48) to the dash, and over to the drivers door. C304 is the plug that goes to the drivers door harness, and is the point where I tapped into circuit A930. To get to the harness you need to pry up the sill trim panel that runs along the floor from the lower “B” pillar trip up to the dash. I pried it up starting at the back, working my way towards the front of the pickup, then once I reached the front I pulled the piece towards the rear of the pickup to get it free from the clips on the lower section of the “A” pillar. Then I removed the two nylon push connectors that secure the heavy foam & vinyl covering over the harness. I ran the Rostra harness from each seat through a hole in the carpet, under the front of the driver seat, and over to the factory harness which runs in a plastic raceway. From there I ran it up to the front where I terminated the black Rostra wires on the ground lug. The red Rostra wires got soldered to the red 18 gauge wire (hot as long as fuse 48 is in), and the green Rostra wires got soldered to the pink and yellow wire (hot in ACC and RUN)
