anybody out there miss their 12 valves or is everyone happy with 24's i'm thinking about trying to find a 98 quad cab 12 valve and get back to everthing mechanical and get away from all the electrical and the problems that come with it or should i go with a 2000 or a 2001 any thoughts????

nope...

I do not miss the 12v... the 24v has a much broader powerband, as far as stock sense by the "feel of the pants". It feels like stepping back an age to jump back to the 12 valver.

Yeah, I do. I miss the extreme simplicity of the 12V engine; all it needed was fuel and one solenoid to run, and I miss the cavernous interior and flat floor in the back of my '93 Club Cab.

I don't miss the manual windows and minimal electrics on my non-SLT '93.

I miss the difference in price between the old Club and my newer QC. ($$$$$$):(

Although I really like my '99 QC and will have it a long time, sometimes..... I regret... ...

And it didn't have no stinkin' leeft pomp!!!!

I don't miss my '95 Cummins. I love the improvements to my '01. The '95 was cheaper to add power but who cares. This truck is awesome and it isn't even broke in yet :D . Sam.

My 96 was a good truck it pulled anything I hooked to it with a 5 speed.

My 01. 5 pulls the same loads better with the 6 speed H/O and I like the back doors that open.

Cliff

P. S. My 96 is still in the area I see it around and have talked to the new owner it's his first diesel too. :D

Dont miss mine at all really. I had 2 other 94's. one was a 2wd and the other was a 4x4. I kinda miss the 2wd it was a good truck for me but I need a 4x4 to pull over the passes in the winter.

if I could get out from under mine, I would go back to a 12v in a heartbeat. (too many miles on it now)

I dont like this fly-by-wire crap at all. I want a throttle, lift, and injector pump that are mechanical again. if it hadnt been for the piece of crap automatic in my 95 I would have kept it.

while I'm at it, I would also get a 2wd and stealth it as a half ton gaser, short bed and all.

anybody wanna trade a 12v 5spd reg cab 2x4 for a 01 24v 5spd. QC 4x4 :D

Don't miss my '95 other than the MPG it got. Both 4x4's but the '95 got a constant 19. 5 whether driven hard or easy. The 2001. 5 MPG seems to be very sensitive to the amount of go-pedal pressure.

I figure the engine electronics coupled with a manual is an even trade in problem potential compared to the 12V simplicity coupled with an auto.

The 4 doors are the tie breaker for me.

I miss my 97, 95, and 91. Until I drive my buddies 97 then I feel better about this computer I am driving. If I had it all to do over again I would still be driving my 91. At almost 300,000 miles it had needed a new pump, and a front end rebuild, nothing else. It got 20mpg all the time and would pull anything I asked it to. It did ride a little rough and was louder, but most importantly; it was paid for.

Well,we've got one of each. The 12v is way easier to modify, and I like the fact you can take a wrench to it and fine tune it for best economy. A bad sensor isn't going to keep if from running, and you don't need a $6000 dollar scan tool to diagnose problems.

I like the 24v, but I hate the electric pump reliability (on 3rd lift pump). And lets not kid ourselves about how much longer a 7100 will last over a VP44. A bad batch of fuel can wipe out a 44 and running out of fuel can wipe it out too. My biggest complaint is the throttle by wire... it sucks off-roading the 24v because of how sensitive the throttle is while you're bouncing around.

If I had to do it over again, I'd stick to all 12v(my original plan). I've got too much money invested in the 24v to just trade in. But if I ever run across a 98 quad cab 12v 5spd I'd be hard pressed.

I don't miss mine at all, in fact whenever I want to see how a real Cummins should run, I take it to the nearest truck pull and thoroughly ENJOY myself:D:D:D

Must admit I really liked my 12v BUT!!!! These 24ver's are where it's at. Better reliability run stronger more power. On my second 24v and if I should trade it I wouldn't be looking for a 12v... ..... Pete

I would take my old 12v back in a heart beat! It had better mpg and better low end torque. I've had my 2001. 5 ho checked out at 2 different cummins shop's they tell me the same thing- Emissions! Dam tree huggers!
