Need batteries for the truck. Did some surfing, got some prices, ready to slap down some $$ for Red Top Optimas. Questions:

1. Is it better to buy over the 'net and save some money or purchase from the local thief? I am concerned about battery "freshness" and know that I can inspect them at the local guy prior to purchase.

2. Has anyone purchased over the 'net and what was their experience?

Good prices from Samsoffroad.com, batterycountry.com and thinkjeep.com (Leon Rosser). Anyone dealt with them? Good/bad?

Have to check shipping cost and compare with buying local.

Thanks for all

Interstate battery sells them under thier own brand, for decent prices.

If you can find an interestate dealer (there's a LOT of them), you can find optimas.

Interstate battery is just around the corner from me. They have great prices on all the other electrical products they sell but not Optimas or anything similar. Costco is the best price. Sam

Hey kids,

Thanks for the ideas. I have tried the local Interstate guy and the prices were not that good. I will try Cosco and perhaps another Interstate outfit.

Prices over the 'net were between $115 and $147 for the Red tops. Yellow tops? Forget it. Some were over $175!

Once again, thanks for the assist.

If you are near a Four Wheel Parts Wholesaler, they are usually around $129 and you can ususally negotiate with them. Remember with ordering them, the money you save will most likely get eaten up in the shipping. Those Optimas aren't lite. :D

Hi all,

Looks like batteries gotta wait a couple more weeks. Was going to stop at Cosco on the way home from wifes doctors appointment on Friday but was advised to proceed direct to hospital. Sooo,

No batteries but I have a beautiful new son!

Now if I can just locate the owners manual, mute button and rig up a catch bottle for the rectal vent system... ...

Anyone got a jig for the "killer bowel pin"???

Everything else just took a back seat:D

Once again, thanks to all for the assistance and wish me luck!

Congratulations Steve!

I don't know if you got your batteries yet or not. One place that hasn't been mentioned yet is

http://www.dcbattery.com

A year ago, I bought two yellow-tops for $143 each (delivered to my door) and two blue-tops for $150 each. Last November I bought two more blue-tops for $130 each.

The blue-tops are identical to the yellow-tops (deep-cycle), except the blue-tops don't have side terminals and do have threaded top studs for marine/RV use. Both types have regular terminals as well.

I'm using blue-tops for almost everything now, since they will downgrade from the truck to the RV easily. The price was very reasonable, considering the delivery.

I can't say how long these Optimas will last because they're too new, but lots of reports are good.

Congrats Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.

Just remember that every UPS dock gorilla will pitch the batteries as far as they can so as not to have to carry them. :(

I bought 2 yellow tops for my jeep about a year ago. I bought them from truckperformancecenter.com when they had a free shipping offer going on. They also price matched the lowest price i found for them. It was a great deal when i bought them.

Try looking thru at online retailers (summit, jegs, 4wheelparts, quadratec, performanceproducts, carparts, etc... ) and see if they have a free shipping offer going on.

You could also try a local Farm & Fleet or a CostCo. They usually have the red tops for $100, and yellow tops for $150-175.

Once again, thanks kids for all the help. Just back to work after taking 5 weeks off to bond with the little one. Getting caught up on mail etc.

I am hoping that his first word will be "Diesel". Cummins is a little bit of a stretch...

ANyhow, will get the batteries in the near future.
