How many disorders do you have?

1984 Chrysler 5th Avenue/318 ECM

I'm looking to get a new rifle.

I really like the easy switch barrel side of the Savage, and theyre very reasonable.

I've also been told theyre very accurate right out of the box.

Anyone here have one?

Pro's/ cons of the rifle?

TIA.

Eric

I don't know what a 10/110 is, but I have a Savage 7mm mag. bought it new in 90 or 91. Left hand bolt. Came with a crappy Bushnell scope, trigger lock, case, field glasses and some other junk as a package. All together was still less than the Ruger w/o a scope at the time. It's held up well, but I'm had trouble with keeping it sighted in last hunting season. After reading the recent scope thread, I know what I'm gonna try first. ;)

pros/cons

Pros-- the headspace of the chamber/barrel gives even the home gunsmith the ability to tighten the thing up a bit. If you are a reloader ,this can be used to improve accuracy. Cons- the trigger is not Remington--however I think I saw that they recently introduced an adjustable trigger. If you buy one, make sure it has this feature. My buddy bought a . 223 for varmint hunting and when we started heating things up . the bullets blew up in the air. This is caused by the powder gaining temperature[and causing higher velocity] in a hot chamber[in other words, what works fine at home, on a range test is too hot in tthe field]. These rounds worked fine in my rifle. I think either his barrel had faster twist or the grooves cut deeper into the bullet jacket, causing the problem.

Many varmint hunters like this rifle because it is accurate. Lets face it , I would rather burn 400 rounds a day through a cheaper gun if I were really in the mood to red mist the varmints than abuse a fine custom job that cost ten times the price of the savage.

Edit ; Savage calls the new trigger Accutrigger

Thanks guys.

A model 10 is the short action (which is really like a medium length action)

And the 110 is a long action.

That's what I meant by 10/110. :D

I know it's not a controlled feed Win 70, Rem 700 etc, but it's reasonably priced, and I can do the whole thing with quality glass cheap compared to a bare mod 700 or 70.

The one I'm looking at is a package deal, but it comes with a Burris scope and posi-lock burris mounts, a Harris bipod, sling, and a hard case.

The one I'm looking at also has the accutrigger.

From what I hear, that rrigger really ROCKS!!

I'd like to go hunting with it sometime at my parents house in Maine.

Not sure what for yet. I'd like to get a moose premit, but theyre pretty scarce.

I havent made up my mind on 308 or 300 WM.

PS I wanted to get a Tikka 595 sporter, but theyre discontinued. :(:{

Eric,

You sure can open a can of worms with this one.

The new Savage 110's are a good well priced rifle. The problem I see you are going to have is caliber selection. The 300 WM is going to do everything in North America but you also pay the price in ammo. You can also hunt well with the 308 in the model 10. The advantages of the 308 will be ammo selection/price. You can shoot the high grade factory heavies or varmint with 90 grain sabot rounds.

I guess thats why I have so many hunting rifles, I don't have to choose what to shoot, I have to decide what to shoot it with.

Get what you can shoot off the bench for 20 rounds and not want to put it down. The 300 will have a slight kick to it. Enjoy, Mike

Savage 110e

Years ago I bought the wife a Savage 110e in 243 caliber. It's not very pretty with a rough metal finish and plain maple (I think) stock but it shoots a respectful group with off the shelf loads.

Between my two youngest brothers and myself we have had 7 of these rifles in calibers 22-250, 243, 308, and 7mm mag. All have been excellent shooters. There isn't one of them that I couldn't lean up against a tree and pop a whitetail in the head at 350 yards. Definetely like the synthetic stocks and stainless barrels that are available.

Paul

I just bought a Savage Varmint gun(. 223). This will be a varmint game gun only. T%he only thing I don`t like about the gun is the synth stock. But at the price of the Savage compared to the big 4, I can later replace the stock if I want and still have spent less than the price of the other rifles. And Savages are known to shoot.
